Improving VOIP call quality on Skype with iBurst

Hi Shaun and other fellows,

I have done some tests in trying to diagnose intermittently poor Skype call quality, and was hoping to find some advice here. Results are as follows:

iBurst Speed Test:
Upload = 859 kbps
Download = 270 kbps
Quality of service = 79%
Jitter = 12.4 ms
Packet loss = 0.1%
MOS Score = 3.7

Speedtest.net – Johannesburg:
Upload = 0.29 Mbps
Download = 0.89 Mbps
Ping = 145 ms
Speedtest.net – New York:
Upload = 0.21 Mbps
Download = 0.51 Mbps
Ping = 655 ms

Speedtest.net – San Diego (we make most calls to San Diego)
Upload = 0.36 Mbps
Download = 0.17 Mbps
Ping = 775 ms

Now I have a very old external antennae (testimony to my extended tenure with iBurst ) and an even older UTD modem. What can I do to improve my experience with VOIP (Skype) calls?

We use Skype extensively as a landline replacement for international calls to phones and computers.

Peter Erian was here some time ago, and adjusted the antennae, which has remained locked in the position he left it.

Or is this as good as it gets and should I just shut up?

If you not concerned about quality of voice (not wanting it in .wav-like quality), then less than 100kbps can handle it.

Your other stats do not look too bad either.

Is it all calls?
