Hi guys,

I have been without a line and ADSL for 9 whole days now. I've phoned the call centre twice every day but I just cannot seem to get a resolution to the fault on my line.

I am absoultely desperate for a working line. I've got studies to pursue and it is absolutely essential that I have internet access. I just don't know what to do anymore. They've escalated my fault but they just don't do anything about it!

What can I do? 9 whole days and still no resolution. It's an absolute disgrace!!

What can I do?

Call 10215. Make sure you have a ref. and follow up 3 times a day. Also phone accounts and get a discount for the time without service.

Been doing that already, haha...but thanks for the replies! I just read through 'Telkom's Standard Terms and Conditions for The Provision of Public Switched Telecommunication Services' and came across the following:

4.3 Telkom will attend to faults reported by the customer during office hours,
and will apply its reasonable endeavours to have the service restored in
the shortest possible time. The customer may, however, request that a
fault be attended to immediately and, subject to condition 4.7, Telkom will
apply its reasonable endeavours to do so.

4.7 If the customer requests that a fault be attended to immediately, and this
requires that repair work be carried out after office hours, Telkom may
charge the after-hours maintenance charge applicable to the specific
service, as determined by Telkom from time to time.

Well, that's interesting. If my line isn't working by tomorrow afternoon I will be forced to use this option.

Dude, there's nothing you can do about HellScam.

My friend that's living in semi-farm environment close to Stellenbosch has been waiting for at least 4 months now. Fair enough, they had to come put up poles for the line, but 4 months for that is a bit ridiculous.
He kept phoning me to ask if there is anything I can do to help the process on, but all you can do is wait... and phone then about 10 times a day. Just keep at it. Even if there's 10 operators to
divide you calls between, phoning 10 times a day will make sure they each get a healthy supply of fault escalating :P

10215 usually works for me, and if not, demand to speak to the manager, not the supervisor and explain to them that it is business related, after doing this, I usually get a technician out within half an hour....worth a squirt.

I don't know what you did, but we had this customer that applied for 15 ADSL lines and it took about 2 months to get them installed and another 6 to upgrade the exchange...

EDIT: And that was after daily nagging them!

Upgrade to a business line (if you're really desperate and can afford it). Telkom take care of their business clients.

Where in SA are you?

Like I said, I was very polite with the call centre person, and once I was getting any joy (after recording their name) I would demand to be transferred to the manager whereby, after explaining my story how I need this line up as in yesterday and cannot stress that enough and if need be I'd stress it enough throughout the day - they cave and send someone out pronto - guess its the gift of the gab.

The customer was in Hout Bay. And it only had a 6mb exchange! And they were running they whole of Hout Bay's ADSL of only that! Now you can imagine what happened there when this guy got 15 lines installed at his home!

And then it got me thinking, why would they even install it if they knew? I was just like.. WOW.

Yeah line bonding. He has a 50mb connection now :P.

I'm not complaining now, was quite a sight to see and I got to install it. Was quite a fight with Telkom, but eventually after months of epic fail it was done.

Thats insane, wonder how much he's paying just for the line rental....

Well, my guess would be about close to R 5000. Rough estimate.

And if you think that's bad, he pays WAY more for the uncontended Fishbone bandwidth. Plus, not to mention, he has another fishbone at his head office with 10 lines. And another at an other branch with 5. xD

I think I wanna work for him...
