I have just had a call from MTN trying to get me to take out a new 24 month contract as mine is about to end. The saleman has confused me with the difference between in bundle vs out of bundle. Basically he told me that I was mad to just carry on with everything as it is on a month to month basis and get more or less if I signed a 24 mont contract. He didn't even have his facts as to my current contract correct.

so what is the difference beyween in and out of bundle and should I keep my current contract or move to prepaid?

The per item cost is generally more out of bundle (IE without contract or prepaid bundle value, just using plain "airtime"), up to twice as much more depending on the contract/bundle. Doesn't matter much if your use is very light though.

For instance voice per minute might be R1.30 out of bundles (above included value) on a specific contract but without the contract it would be R2.30.

In-bundle is the value (voice minutes, data, SMSs) your contract might have, or bundle you may have purchased on prepaid. Out-of bundle are the costs over and above that either at a specific contract rate or at the more expensive standard prepaid rate.

And don't forget there is a new phone included in a contract's value as well (although often over and above the standard contract cost).

Yeah. I think that's what he would have been saying. The same as pay as you go basically but post-paying instead of pre-paying. Tough I thought contracts expire completely after the 24months and you basically get kicked off the network/blacklisted/deactivated at that point if you haven't made alternate plans, but I guess I was wrong.
