Hello Everyone,

I am considering getting a Wifi Router to keep permanently in my car so I can use cheaper data than on the cellphone contract. Has anyone done this and if so how successful? Ideally a router Any recommendations of a router? Ideally one that runs off 12VDC power? Not too sure about using one of the portable Mifi devices as I would rather have something that switches on and off with the car. Thoughts?

Just get a conventional LTE router/AP and take out the battery so it only gets power when the car is on? Keep the battery in the cubby?

And when exactly are you going to use it?

Podcasts, Waze Navigation, Whatsapp calling (although not too optimistic about that). Also for the kids when travelling.

Doh. I'm an idiot. Too used to cell phones with non-removable batteries. All I need to do is find a Mifi Router with removable battery. Thanks

I assume you are going to connect the wifi to LTE though?

Unless you hope to drive past free wifi spots ?

Yes, correct. I did see afterwards that the suggested TPLink device doesn't have a 3G/LTE "Modem" and requires a USB device.
