In-flight WiFi finances: WirelessG explains

Vodacom is a bit silly expecting a positive return on investment so soon; a future where people would rather _not_ use internet on an airplane is not very likely, quite positive they will get ROI after a few years

I'll be flying on Mango in the near future.
I'm definitely going to buy in-flight WiFi access, not because I need it or want it, but because I'd like to support the concept.
I know several businesspeople and a few geeks who have said that they would rather fly Mango because then they can get in-flight WiFi.

Eventually the ROI will come.

How come wi-fi access on Mango is cheaper than a drink?

For domestic flights this can be iffy (Cape Town <-> Joburg maybe, Joburg <-> Durbs no) but I would love this service on international flights! I can then finally try to finish reading Wikipedia :)

The problem is that it is in "Beta phase" (So the staff on Mango say) and it is not reliable. In the last four months, and flying twice a month from Durban to Cape Town, the system only worked twice. Pity as it is a great idea.

Last weekend my wife tried it and it worked pretty well. She was able to make a skype video call to me. I had my phone mounted on the dashboard of the car and we could video chat for a while until I drove out of 3G coverage some kilometers from Beaufort-West. Her connection was stable and reasonably fast on her Desire S through out the flight.
