Hi guys and girls, I’m having a problem with my wow and I’m hoping somebody might have some ideas of what is causing it

At random intervals my game will freeze as if your ip address has just changed and you are about to get kicked from the server, but after a few seconds the game speeds up and seems to catch up with the lost time. The funny thing is the wow VOIP works fine and every body tells me they can still hear me while I am frozen.

I have deleted all add-ons and also my WTF folder but with no luck I have only been experiencing the problem after the new patch

Any Ideas?

Lag spikes

one of 2 problems.

U have a crappy GFX card the the game is playing catch up if it lagged to far behind.

or

It's server related.

It get it very rarely, but it does happen. I have a problem with both the above :D

There are no girls on the Internet :(

Is your pc overheating? How often does it freeze? What are your pc specs?

Easy, its cold wrap a electric blanket around your pc and wait half an hour

Or if you wanna get technical supply us with more info:

1. What PC ?
2. GFX Card?
3. Sound Card?
4. Adsl/ 3g?

How long have you had the problem, did it start from 2.4?

Deleting WTF is not enough.

Delete Interface/Wtf and Cache Folders. Update all your addons.

My first guess is LAG, It's happened to me, I'm playing, then everything stops and 5 seconds later, its a mess, everyones like, warping all over the show etc

This happens on overseas servers generally and since WOW is not local, I'm guessing its LAG.

However, this type of thing can be caused by your PC.

Example: whenever I burn a DVD, my PC hangs "for bout 5 seconds" and If I'm watching a tv show or something, it speeds up to like 'catch up', so... yeah!

How does your WOW play GENERALLY? If it is GENERALLY okay, then I'm telling you now, LAG is your problem.

If you use a SHAPED account, get an UNSHAPED account ;)

Comon this is the wow section not the bicycle section.

he made valid points

Lag is an Issue. - Lost packets also if he's playing on Wireless

I am just giving him kuk lol.

Yeah maybe his points are valid, but more info is needed. My wow also froze loads of times especially when i hearthed/ported, since patch 2.4. It came down to a addon which was faulty. So we need to know when the problem started and the pc specs.

Since patch 2.4 it takes ages for me to log out. It just stays on the wow screen for about 2 minutes before it exits wow

Thanks for the replies people

I’m running a intel Pentium 4 3.00Ghz 1.25GB ram, a Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT 256 MB

I’m connecting with adsl 384kbs. I don’t thinks it’s a lag spike because the wow voice chat is still working with no lag while my char is “frozen”

Run without voice chat and see if it freezes. But update your addons get www.wowmatrix.com the program will update everything for you. delete your wtf/interface and cache folders as well.

What is your FPS?

Also when did this start happening? was it fine then suddenly started freezing or been like this the whole time?

Does it happen everywhere or mainly in towns/crowded areas?

What is your average ping and FPS?

Try turning down some graphics settings. Maybe just set everything to low straight off the bat and check performance, if it still freezes up then it's not that. On my old system (similar setup to yours) I was getting slight FPS issues which would make everything seem frozen for a while. I was running: AMD 3500, 2gb ram, 7800gtx on a 384kbs unshaped
Upgraded a little while ago and now I've got the same latency but much better (and constant) FPS and it makes the game feel so much faster. Haven't had that problem since.

Your specs seem fine (better than my 1gig DDR, P4 3.0, X700).

A few things to look at:

1) Clear up any programs using memory that you do not need (I usually turn off my AV, auto updates on windows and remove any additional programs I am not using from my task manager)

2) Do the ACK's thingy (The link is somewhere in the WoW forum). I just reformatted my PC and I have noticed that my son's pc is sitting at approx. 100ms lower latency than mine.

3) As suggested, turn down the graphics settings (I turned down spell effects, lighting and weather settings)

4) Get unshaped, it really makes a difference (WA has been good to me and they allow one to use the SAIX or Verizon network). Openweb also been recommended.

5) Vent was crashing my system but that was resolved by changing my Input / Output devices under settings. I also turned off the in game chat system.

Other than that, I cannot think of anything else. Good luck and hope you get it sorted.

I get the same. It happens when packets get dropped, and have to be resent-rereplied.
The only real solution is to get a better connection. You need unshaped, and landline. Shaped and/or wireless will not cut it.
