I've been recording my petrol fill-ups for a year or so and on the odd occasion, the cost of the fuel and the litres dispensed are not accurate, with every inaccuracy being less fuel dispensed.

For the most part, the fuel dispensed is accurate.

An example was just now at an Engen: I asked for R450 @ R21.51/L, which should amount to 20.92-litres being dispensed. The reading on the pump showed 20.601-litres. Sure, it's only R7 and an error of 1.5%, for me, but another person filling a 80-litre tank will get fscked out of a lot more than R7.

Anyone else noticing this?

Have never experienced this, but have also never filled up fuel by saying “give me X rands of fuel” so I can only imagine it has something to do with that software lock.

I would imagine sometimes it runs over the other way as well and likely averages out.

When I say fill up my tank it’s always been perfectly accurately over many years and many different vehicles in Fuelly.

I only use Engen.

I don't think one would notice this unless you specifically look for it.

I'll raise this with the fuel station the nest time it happens and see how they deal with it.

Are you using the asking for four fifty and then handing over four fifty Rand notes technique?

P.S. I have never had an issue, I have been using an app for years and the most any pump has been out is R0.01.
No.
I paid with my phone.

I do specifically look for it as Fuelly takes the cost per litre and total litres to give you the total.

You never enter it yourself which is why it’s easy to compare.

It’s never been wrong.

Any reason to ask for R450 instead of just filling it up?

I drive very little since lockdown so I've been filling up halfway only.
Used to be R250...

But you are going to use the fuel anyway at some stage.

Also, potential for wasting fuel to and from a petrol station if it’s not directly on your path.

Only illogical people don’t.

If you need the fuel it doesn’t matter if you put it in now or later and filling it all up at once saves you time and money.

Poor logic indeed.
No. I read somewhere or watched a video that filling half tank is most economical. It's your cue to Google.

Cause he needs to eat as well.

Plus the time wasted and tip for attendant.

this, helps with Budgeting to fill to R450 or R250 or whatever,
you at least know you spent X amount and drive like a Saint now to keep the fuel lasting.

problem is the pumps that aren't calibrated accurately, and differ from pump to pump,
again, loads of money to be made with pumps that lie or cheat,

says X but actually dispensed Y and pocket the difference.
nice side hustle for the Station,
