So my clutch broke last Friday and I took it to a mechanic near my work who everyone at the office uses, he quoted me about R11 000 to sort it out, which sounded like a fortune but fine, i figured since its BMW parts, it makes sense that it comes to about R7500 without labour,
I get it back the following Wednesday, and everything seems fine.. Monday I'm driving on the highway and the car's steering starts doing its own thing, veering left and right on its own, at first I thought it was a puncture, pulled over, checked it out, tyres look fine, goto the garage, pressure is fine all round, so I took it back to the guy and he said the 'bushes' on the control arm are cracked, due to wear and tear, or I hit a pothole or something which caused it.. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt, after all he works with cars and I work with PC's.. and it'll be another R2500 to replace.. I told him to go ahead and fix it, today I go pick it up and now its making some weird sound whenever I accelerate, which I can only describe as the kind of sound a diesel makes when you pull off.. and it only happens when the cars moving, so perhaps something is just lose?
I immediately phoned him to tell him about it (he wasnt there when I picked it up) and he said i must bring it back and he'll check it out.
I havent paid him the R2500 YET, and hes expecting an EFT, but this is my question and I'm not sure if its ethical or not - whats your guys opinion on me taking it to another garage and getting them to check it out, and telling him i'll deduct whatever they charge me from the R2500 I owe him? Even though he laid out the cash to buy the new control arm/bushes/whatevertheycalled
I simply dont trust him or his mechanics anymore, I spoke to a friend of mine today after collecting my car and he said took his car there to get his head gasket replaced, and since then spent 40k on other parts like the oil pump twice and the clutch.. something aint kosher with this guy..
Opinions pls?
