No no no, it depends... on whether you've put an aftermarket exhaust on your scooter! And yes, I have seen this. It confused me greatly

The point I am trying to make is that do you treat a car like a car? Of course. A truck/pedestrian/horse like a car? No, obviously not. So why do people get their knickers in a twist when they are asked to treat motorcycles like motorcycles?

For example:
A truck is big and will make other things go squish. So you keep your distance (esp if they are behind you and you are approaching a stop. Possibly you stay in gear, ready to move off)
Pedestrians are squishy so you try avoid them, and look for them near shops or housing complexes
Motorcycles (and bicycles) are thin (compared to a car) and so their speed and distance is easily misjudged. So act appropriately. I don't understand why this makes people think we want to be treated like princesses?

This latest report on California was released in May last year. I was agreeing with you about the safety aspects.

Yes! There are many of us on the roads who got their licences when lane splitting in SA was illegal .......
So it is not surprising that some motorists think it is illegal, it is no accident.

So I was quite taken aback when I discovered somewhere along the line that clause was changed. Our rules now no longer make it specifically illegal but neither does the law specifically make it legal ...... It is hanging in the air ......

My post is aimed at showing that this issue is being debated everywhere and if motorcyclists choose to continue behaving as they do, the tide will turn against them ......

Also quite agree on the section you referred to, which enforces what all road users should be doing. retaliation is unacceptable from both sides!

So which one is it? No retaliation, or turning tides because you mis-interpreted a law, based on your understanding of a law that has changed?

This is exactly where their logic fails, they somehow think that motorcyclist have no clue how cars work.

Aaah that makes a whole lot more sense yes.

I honestly wish someone like the AA would just make a similar public statement for lane splitting guidelines and that way most people will wake up to the fact that it's legal in SA.

We are much like California in that it's not explicitly forbidden and is covered by a passing in the same lane grey area.
