Howzit guys,

I got notice of a fine in CPT, for a vehicle I don't own, during a period I wasn't in CPT.

I apparently didn't display a license disk for a white Toyota Corolla on the the 27th of July 2017.

How do I go about disputing this?

I've tried calling the Belville Traffic Dept - no love, sent 2 emails, 0 acknowledgement of my mails.

I don't want this to escalate to a point where I'm summonsed & warrants are out for my arrest.

Thanks,

This happened to my husband, twice. The first was during the changeover that combined Cape Town and South Peninsula into one municipality, and there was a car in the SP municipality with the same registration. When he phoned Gallows Hill they said they would sort out the fine (it was not his car, clearly) but said it could happen again. He chose to get his registration and plates changed, at his expense. The second time the vehicle was a minibus taxi in Khayelitsha with fraudulent plates. The dept sent him a form/affidavit and that was the end of it. If the registration is CA, then phone Gallows Hill (021 406 8700) which is the main dept, but they close at 3.30. If it's CY, well then that's another story...

@OP, same here and for two other people I know firsthand, though we do live in CPT. I have a summons generated for me but not served yet.

Thanks guys.

I bought a BMW motorbike recently that was registered in CPT. The reg was the same as the fine's reg number. They just got the vehicle wrong. So it's false plates.

Wait for summons.
Question on this; If they never serve you with a summons then what?

I received an email from Paycity.co.za indicating I had a court date for 26 September (tomorrow) but no details other than that. Also this email was sent to a really old spare email address that I check infrequently.

I've not been served a summons and hopefully nobody at the complex where I live has accepted one on my behalf!

Then you weren't summonsed.

How was the original fine delivered, if it was a hand written fine/spot fine then that serves as a summons and fine as one.

If you never receive a summons, the fine will lapse after 12 months. I recently checked on PayCity and see 2 traffic violations that I got in the Breede River Municipality (Worcester) in 2014 and 2015 have lapsed

It must state SUMMONS with the court date and name of court clearly stated

The second notice arrived in my post box. No first notice before that and no final notice after it.
