Incredible Fail!

Went to the sandton one and asked for a ipod dock that works with an original apple remote (no where had stock in sandton was my last hope). Oke told me they don't sell original apple docks. While i was waiting for a friend to finish checking out the laptop he was thinking of getting i happend to wonder a section with about 20 different ipod accessories and there sat the dock i requried, boxed with a remote. Now obviously incredible staff need to know what they sell ? Same store told me they don't stock display port to DVI and VGA at incredible, yet i picked up one from cresta a couple of months back. TOOOOOOOLSS!!!!

We can all laugh at Incredible Connection... but the people having the last laugh are the fat rich buggers who own it. :P So much money to be made from the masses.

Thing is people want to be idiots. As a part-time reseller I have to battle with idiots who think IC is the only place that sells computer products and that I must be dealing in stolen goods or something because I can offer some products at less than half of what IC want at times.

Ag well, whatchagonnado.

I do like IC though to boost my sense of goodness and well-being. When I'm feeling down I just like to go in there and ask a question and get a wonderful blank look from them... puts a smile on my face and my inner child puts on its scottish accent and goes "ogggg, Ahm bet-uh ahn uuuuuu" :D

I don't blame the original sales person. We know it is a network interface card and abbreviated to NIC, but I dare not try and make an impression anywhere and ask for a 'NIC'. That's just being daft to be honest. Seems you went there with a stuff them, know it all attitude and setup yourself up for failure by being holier than thou.

Calling a spade a spade and all that. Honest misunderstanding from said employee, but worthy enough to post on a public forum?

I need a Network Card please sir, not 10/100 la di da crap!

They kinda should now that. They are working at a pc shop after all. People should know what they are selling.

That's not the point. He went there with an attitude and it reflected completely in his initial post. He even compounded the issue when he did not just say NETWORK CARD to the second employee, but did the NIC phrase once more for kicks. The worthiness of this specific store is not my issue, but rather folks that think they are better than others. You stand 10 hours a day, literally stand and help 100 people and see how you perform. Are you going to be sharp as a razor for all those hours? 6 days a week? Did not think so, so step off the high horse and get some backbone in this life!

Not that it will help, but I filled out a customer feedback form on their website with a link to this thread. Made me feel a little bit better

I bet you work there. At least I know my products. You try and fix a network problem in a huge company. Then we can talk.

Hey muchacho. I work for a large attorney firm. Don't even tell me about networking, that's peanuts in comparison with my responsibilities.

In ICs favour:

they have those nice early morning discounts to get rid of stock... everyone rushed for the xbox games, i waited peacefully to get my PC games.

Not in ICs favour:

they take advantage of your lack of knowing like the fact that they charge R120 to insert your graphics card for you. After i built a computer the sound on the motherboard wasn't working so I take it to them thinking they'll be able to download the right drivers etc. turns out the sound on the motherboard wasn't working so I paid a R100 bucks for that sh#t (i was naive)

though i do see the appeal in going to a store like IC... some hardcore places make you feel stupid if you dont know that there's DDR1 and DDR2 ram and that they have different speeds or whatever...

i was young and just wanted to play games on my computer OKAY!

So it is ok to be lazy and incompetent, and leech off the company. Welcome to the modern world were you dont have to do *****, and get paid any way for all your hard work.

Also in their defense: they at least a good place to go if you need to check out a product before ordering it from the supplier or before offering it to a customer. A bit tough sometimes to ask the distributors to open a box so you can see if the thing is worth offering to people.

Teraside

I understand your point of view and agree to a very large extent. In this particular case, it could have been that the original poster's attitude fueled the situation. My first post was just to be funny, really.

BUT

This does not change the fact that IC's prices are ridiculous and that their sales persons doesn't know much in general.

Peace

I'm not here to defend any store or any business or corporate institution. I'm here to defend the working man. The man that doesn't prance around throwing hissy fits when he is called upon his errors. The man that doesn't walk around and boast "I is being fix network problem at huge company". The man that works 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, damn well sweating and earning every cent he has. The man that doesn't need any defense in actual fact.

The man defends himself through just plain living. The riff raff run around bitching and moaning.

So now I must pay for actually getting some were in life. I am riff raff ha to you. I put myself through the course. I did'nt have mommy or daddy put me through it. They don't even try. And if you knew anything you would know that what I do is not easy.

So it's enough to just show up at work, never mind having a professional attitude and competency in your field of work?

Part of being an employee is dealing with the 'not-so-nice' as well. In this case it was his job to serve the customer to the best of his ability--even if he has to deal with the bad attitude. He could have put his own ignorant and dismissive attitude in his pocket and simply asked the customer to explain in more detail what he wanted. This is his job--not to stand around looking busy.

"It's easy to let life deteriorate into making a living instead of making a life. It's not the hours you put in, but what you out into the hours that count. Learn to express rather than impress. Expressing evokes a ''me too'' attitude while impressing evokes a ''so what'' attitude." ~ Jim Rohn
