He was understandably disappointed, as were other guys mentioned. Difference of opinion will exist. However, I don't think Jennings ever mentioned it being a choke which seem to have been completely inferred by News24.

Agree Rice's "choke" comment was unnecessary, some of his other comments makes sense though. 100%, seems like News24 wrongly ascribes the "choke"'tag to Ray's comments, although they generally echo those of Clive.

Point is, everyone here who contends that we should've gone for the win is labelled being "not knowledgable about cricket". Seems like there are an awful amount of actual cricketers and ex-cricketers who agree that we should rather have positively played for an historic victory.

And plenty who agree that it was the right decision

Enough already for me though.

We could have
We should have
We didn't

Can we move on now?

Done is done, all this squealing over spilt milk.

Oh, and 'we were surprised' , yeah right, that's why they put nine on the boundary and bolted short and wide for the final overs and not 4 in slips.

Cricket is played on the field and in the mind.

Clive Rice is still bitter about being dropped before the 1992 world cup and couldn't get a job with CSA.

Before this test when I was reading Jenning's comments, I thought he was trying to score himself a job as India coach.
He had plenty of nice things to say about their players.

HD, I don't really listen to, so I don't know what he said.
I do remember he failed at the few tests he got to play.

Regardless of whether he failed at test level he has years of first class experience. He was discussing the decision with Shaun Pollock. They both agreed that it was the wrong decision. Surely you can't dispute Pollock 's credentials.

Well, Pollock wasn't a very good captain. At least not a great record and made a huge mistake.

He wants to take the heat off the Pom slaughter.
I guess he's done watching his team and want to watch the #1 team instead.[/QUOTE]

Under his captaincy the highest they have chased is 294 and he talks as he has been a positive captain all his life.

This is what he said in 2007 after a draw with India:
"Yesterday morning, we set the guys a challenge," said Vaughan. "'If you can't win the game, you've to draw it'. We said we'd try and show character, try and occupy the crease. If we've got an unbelievable start who knows [what we'd have attempted], but we set our sights for a draw and Kevin's innings was tremendous in the circumstances."

They probably can't hear anything over the sound of 3 - 0.

Ya they're going to milk that for a while.

On a side note. Why the hell does England, Australia and India get 4 and 5 match series and we are stuck with 2 match series with the likes of Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. It pisses me off. We are the number one team and not the world FFS.

We had the chance to make history and we went for a draw. Line a guy who goes to a party, picks up two chicks, and walks away from the thresome to go jack off at home.

You can thank the BCCI for that.

Real sportsmen show thier character in times like these - Proteas were paid for the draw, there is no way they would have turned down a few easy singles if they were not paid off... wake up sleepy heads... it's a bookies game.
This guy might have a point.

Kallis has retired

At least quote a source when you make a statement like this...

http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/story/703801.html

Jacques Kallis has announced that he will retire from Test cricket after the Boxing Day match against India.

Cricket South Africa tweeted the news on Wednesday afternoon. In a statement, Kallis said: "It wasn't an easy decision, with Australia around the corner and the success this team is enjoying, but I feel the time is right. I don't see it as goodbye, I still have a lot of hunger to push South Africa to that World Cup in 2015 if I am fit and performing."

More to follow

Once again we the laughing stock of the cricketing world.

No, we're not. I might disagree with them not opting for the chance of the win, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't an absolutely brilliant performance, and a fantastic test match. It simply means that I'm left with a bitter-sweet taste in my mouth. Most cricketing pundits feel similarly, and everyone with an inkling of cricketing knowledge knows that it was a brilliant test match.

We are in no way the laughing stock of the cricketing world. If anything we are even more respected because of that match...
