We tested indoor digital TV antennas and they failed to pick up a single channel

MyBroadband bought two indoor television antennas to see if the more expensive "digital" antenna was worth the price difference but ended up not being able to watch anything with either antenna.

South Africa's digital migration is finally nearing completion, which means that the older analogue TV broadcasts are being shut down.

Poor DTV implementation...
@Jan Have you tried these at all? (Sorry for poor picture) you might get a better signal reception on ATV, not sure about DTV.

You pretty much need to be right under the broadcast tower for those things to work....

I suppose it depends on where you are how good your signal is.

I get perfect reception with this little wire antenna.

Would be interesting to have a list of budget friendly antenna that are able to receive decent signals. I am a pensioner and often looked at getting a digital antenna for our smart TV but have been hesitant to spend money on a pig in the poke.

The government set top boxes comes with a Yagi-type external and free installation.
Great picture quality; p*ss-poor content.

The new antenna states that it has a range of up to 5km, which should be enough to get good reception.
Depends whether you are 5km from Brixton tower or 5km from a gapfiller.

Just to be clear the Digital migration was used like everything else to award tenders and Loot the cash. I am yet to see anyone in KZN with a govt issued STB. These process's are carefully planned and manipulated so the contracts and tenders are awarded with huge figures but no delivery of the product.

Tried those a couple of years ago, they work quite well if they face the right direction. I worked on DTV decoder in 2008 and we could get HD with non amplified bunny ears at the time.

Hi Jan, those antennas are not going to work. DTT has been implemented in the upper UHF bands. So you need either a yellow band (colour code of the aerial) or red band antenna and it must be outside. You also need to check where you are located. It could be that you just behind a big hill and don’t have line of sight of the TX tower. I use 2 Funke active antennas that work well (got them through my industry contacts). I have line of sight of Brixton tower so I use both indoors. And they are made to receive UHF signals. A bunny ears is made for VHF although in analogue you can receive (not perfectly) some UHF signals, depending on where you live.

I get SABC on DTT 738MHz, Until a Week Ago I also got E-TV on DTT 770MHz
My aerial Signal is 100 %
I live in Isandovale (Edenvale) and my Antena is pointed towards JHB (Brixton I think)
edit The Aerial might be pointing towards Pretoria endedit

The E-TV channels are not working. They Worked fine for 6 Months.

I have tried to re-tune the Skyworth TV and get All SABC + Soweto + Regional + Radio Channels but no E-TV Channels.

Could you Please Help Me
