Indoor thermometer

Is there more to this? Or do you really need someone to advise you on buying a thermometer?

Probably a bit like buying a toaster: doesn't really matter which one you get.
The difference between a good toaster and a bad toaster can be significant.

The difference between one style of thermometer and another is slightly less than bugger all.

What is the purpose? If you just want to know what the temperature is then old style is good enough. IF you are very serious about understanding "climate", even indoors, then a wet bulb dry bulb is required. If you want to automatically record temperature etc on a continuous basis then digital with internal storage and download capability is what you want.

I'm looking for a digital indoor thermometer.
I've found this one on Takealot:

What is your experience with them?

Really depends on what you want to use it for. I have a digital one, which includes an hygrometer. It also records high and low values for both over a 12 hour period. Not the same as your link (which doesn't).

I bought it at Makro in the garden section I think. It works great in the biltong box. It under-reports in the fridge due to the cold. Same would probably apply in the highveld in winter.

For the fridge and bread proofing box I use an analogue device which you can purchase at pet shops that sell terrariums as they don't suffer from the cold issue.

Google "terrarium thermometer hygrometer humidity" for same.

Good luck..

I have the one OP posted.
It does what it says on the box. Temperature, humidity and time.
It works well, if you are wanting complicated things then spend more.
If you just want to know the temp so you can decide if you need the aircon on for 2 hours or 3 then this works well.

I bought 4 of them. The instruction manual is the worst I've ever seen. Setting them will be trial-and-error guesswork. As I had 4, I had the opportunity to compare readings. There was never more than a 2 degree or 2% discrepancy between the best and the worst. Conclusion = They're OK but definitely not precision instruments. Stick it on the veranda for casual perusal.

I've got one of those too. So I've got both your thermometers - they are in my hydroponics setup (where I grow my weed). They match pretty closely but the digital one is easier to read so I tend to use that. The other one I have marked temperature ranges on etc (with koki) and just look at only occasionally.
