Going with kayvee's suggestions - I've stumbled upon this:

Is this a good combination for what I aim to achieve?

I have a slightly different challenge in that I have 2 wireless routers (same network) linked by cable to cover both ends of my house (single storey) to give good video streaming coverage. However, I can't get my devices to automajically switch between the two routers and have tried giving both the same name and login credentials as well as different names.

So I'm wondering whether a centralised ceiling antennae will do the trick and eliminate one router? Any ideas?

It should be the same SSID but the 2 channels need to be the furthest apart. Check U don't have interference on channels u using. Try to use ip reservation. Make sure u using only 1 DHCP. better equipment handles the zero-handoff latency issues when roaming between AP's.
