Infinitcall cancelled?

antowan, thats exactly what we need. There are a great deal of people who can't afford ADSL but could benefit a great deal from having a 24/7 connection - even if only 56k. I don't think I'll see it in my lifetime though. But we can hope.

I agree the local phone calls should be free but then maybe we should define what local is? Limited to every city? or just everything national? in my opinion if they even make everyone in the same area pay nothing or a small R50 a month for unlimited calls that will already help as an initial initiative.Just my opinion... use it don't use it.

I agree, free local data calls even if local is limited to the nearest POP would be great, but lets face it... it just does'nt fit in with the Telkom business model which is something to the likes of "screw over the consumer".

In essence it would be the same as an analogue leased line (except it is slower if I am not mistaken) and you can basically use that to guage the costs of a 24/7 analogue service... its mad expensive.

I agree, local internet calls should be free... if not free, heavily discounted. At worst, even if Telkom gave away one free hour of dialup time per day it would help many people, especially those who've started up say a small business and only need to check their mail 5 times a day or school kids who need to check something for homework. Things like that could improve Telkom's image and goodness knows they need it. SurfAnytime is a rip-off and the only saving you really make is if you buy the most expensive one which will save you 20%.. not all that much when the prices are 500% overpriced already. People need reasons to stay with Telkom once there are other options available to them..

Surfanytime SUCKS, cause as usual any minutes not used during a certain month can not be carried over. That's where Telkom makes up for the "discount".
All the cellular networks let you carry over unused minutes, but Telkom? Noooo way.

I agree with Mad, there must be a huge discount on ISP calls, or at least, a free hour per day. But that would make some low end ADSL customers migrate back to dialup, meaning Telkom lose out.

The 50% discount on ISP calls offered to schools is pathetic. Schools should get it for free or 10% of the cost. The chances of a school "abusing bandwidth" i.e. running p2p 24/7 is remote.

Hi

Just a quick note on an experiment I did in a movie theatre. I went to watch a movie at a big complex last week. An ad for Telkom about this long distance remote medical operation that some doctor did on a kid using ISDN came up. A very good (and emotional) ad about a very bad company (as we all know). I loudly said "Telkom sucks" after the ad was shown and surprise surprise, I got echoes from the crowd! I now make an effort of spoiling Telkom ads when I can by loudly saying how Telkom is ripping the SA public off....

It is the least I can do!

Well done sir. This may sound like an immature act, but I'm doing that too from now on. We need to get the word out somehow.

I did the one where the dude on the ship was watching his new born child over (lagy) video conference. So I added at the end "And then he got the bill!" which also seemed to attract some laughter.

ISDN becoming older than dinosaurs.
Oh well if that Doctor used Telkom ADSL the kid would have been a goner cause of that stupid cap.
and port shaping.

Google is so smart,I typed in Hellkom and guess what google said

Don`t you mean.....<insert evil laugh>
TELKOM!

With the amount of lag between here and India, that laaitie would be sliced and diced before the doc even sees a pic on his screen.

Telkom add bashing!
No but seriously those adds woulda bin gud.....if they weren't 4 telkom!

Viva la Resistance (bomb telkom....Jokes.....maybe.....um)

Yeah telkom does seem to come up with some silly adverts.

Just to get back to the point of local calls being cheaper etc. The whole world is moving from dial-up towards broadband. It should be cheaper and doesn't require all the dial-up infrastructure of a normal isp. Surely this must be the way to go. Dial-up sounds like going backwards.

Maybe a question for the guys/gals that know. Is it cheaper to roll out normal dial-up than broadband? Excluding cable etc. Just the physical equipment.

The question is actually moot. Advances in technology coupled to economies of scale always results in bleeding-edge technology becoming cheaper, with outdated technology becoming more expensive due to maintenance/plant change/refurbishment. This means that Telkrap must get off their corporate backsides and roll-out real broadband now, not later. Initial setup costs will be more than extingushed through the proceeds of transactional volume - in other words, grow the market, don't bleed it for every cent you can get. Rant aside, dial-up is dying, and Telkrap should've realised this eons ago...

Infinitcall has been missing from telkoms site for sumtime already...
about a year ago a family member wanted more info on infinitcall
i decided to show her via telkoms site but as you all know by now its not there nomore

but i wont be concerned about telkom cancelling it
before i got icall my internet usage was only an hour p month
phonebill was between R100-R200
after icall my usage steadily increased as did telkoms prices

im sure telkoms aware that if they should cancel icall people like me will just not use the net
anymore

Clever one! I think keeping humor in the picture is very important when doing this. No use looking or sounding like and idiot. Nice one Karnaugh! Very nice! [:D]

hmmm... superb... wish I couldve been there... but hey we all go the cinema so we should all do it and share it here... DAMN funny if you ask me... funny because people in the movie houses seem to either laugh or agree... and telkom is worried about their image... pleez..
They SUCK and they know they SUCK and so does everyone else know they SUCK.

MAD... why dont you just make stickers that say TELKOM SUCK... get loads made.. then distribute everywhere... people love stickers and love sticking them places... the best would be on the back of telkom vans...
