Activation: R62.75
Monthly charge: R62.05
Per call charge: R9.85 inc vat

As a side note, the price cap is reached after 57 mins online.. so at 10 bucks a pop u better hope u don't get disconnected too often.

^@#$^%$& THEM! When I went in last month to get a phone line for Internet they told me it was R51 a month and calls were capped at R7.50. They suck so much. And while I am in a ranting mood for having to pay so much for a 56k dialup line their Surfmore packages are an affront to basic human dignity they are so expensive!

If I remember correctly the price was R7.50 ex vat last when I had infinit call.

Started doing a costing on those yesterday.. will be adding the page soon.. :)

Hi Mad

Thanks a bunch for the news. I think we must link to this info...of great value especially to the dial-up and ISDN users.

Regards,

Well the more we all know the better. Going through the entire Telskom price list PDF, and also looking for backdated price lists so that graphs can be made to illustrate increases in cents and percentage.. may take a while though :)

They pushed up a lot of prices but balanced the basket with lower prices in other areas.. no doubt though that there must be perhaps a couple hundred thousand InfinitCall subscribers who are now paying more without knowing.. easy money eh ;)

I somehow "lost" Infiniticall when I converted from ISDN to ADSL.
I only noticed it when the wife dialed in to a customer in George for a few hours over a weekend.

Thanks for the info MaD. I am currently using dialup and I must be one of the lucky few that has to never reconnect. I connect on Friday night and it stays connected until Monday morning.

I genarally do the same thing - exept my computer somehow has always got a blue screen of death at around 8am Sunday for the past three weeks ... do I blame Telkom or the 'support' which is yet to live up to it's name? :)

Get an old pc that acts as a dial-up server only. Then you can reboot the main pc or get blue screens without losing the connection.

ISP's

I have infinit call, ISDN 64K.

My ISP gives me a choice of accessing IS or SIAX networks. Generally I use IS, and on the majority of occassions I connect Friday evening and disconnect Monday morning.

On a few occassions I have tried SIAX to see if the connection will be any better. On most of those occassions I "loose" my connection on Saturday morning between 0:00 and 2:00.

SIAX = Telkom. You do the maths!

When I have queried this I have been told that no Telkom oops sorry I mean SAIX would never do that. Then I ask, why is IS so much more reliable?

Helkom knows no limits when it comes to making an extra buck or two

Mweb/Telkom screwing us?

Here's the rub...
I am with Mweb (not by choice...Icon and Global got swallowed) and now Mweb is pushing everyone to use their 0860 sharecall number. Refusing to give me the direct dial numbers..must only use the 0860 number to dial up.

I still have an email from Tiscali from 2003 warning me that 0860 numbers DO NOT qualify for infinitcall price reduction.
Can't verify this anywhere on Telkom's page, but I do know someone who used 0860 for a month, and was not billed at Infinitcall rates.

So if Mweb is demanding we use their stupid 0860 number, then all they are doing is raising my phonebill to an astronomical amount.
Has no-one else had this issue? Seems worth following up on. My Friday nite to Saturday morning call is gonna get REAL expensive otherwise.

Any feedback welcomed. Even the Telkom operators don't seem to have a definite answer on this. If true, I am gonna nail Mweb for a stupid idea.

Does not sound right to me, I cannot see any reason why 0860 numbers are not included, I could check my old phone bills and see

This policy is still in place, and has been the case since 'R7 Call Plan' days. I last checked this out at the beginning of the year. It's for that reason that I keep a list of local POP numbers handy, when travelling. There was also a condition at one stage that the 'R7 Call Plan' rates only applied to non-local calls (i.e. calls to destinations further than 50km), but that subsequently fell away.

Well that's neat, I can phone Cape Town and stick on the phone for the entire weekend and only pay Nine bucks, but cannot do it with a 0860 number... what a cop out

Anyone know what the excuse for this is?

Most likely that Telkom does not want customers using the net?

But, as Mbs stated, you only need the non-0860 pop numbers and you are ok. My brother still uses ISDN in Cape Town, but dials a Johburg number. He says the latency on the gaming servers he uses is better if he dials Johburg directly.

0860 numbers are charged as a local call, so you do get the same benefit.

I dial my ISP via a 0860 number for the whole weekend, and it costs me the R 9 odd.

Got news for you. According to Telkom, plus a bill I recently saw, and an old email I have from Tiscali, 0860 DOES NOT qualify for the infinitcall.
Just spoke to Telkom, who confirmed this.
Mweb tells me that some Telkom areas say it does, and some say it doesn't.
Can the Telkom billing depts be doing things differently in diff. areas???

Anyways...Mweb still insists all their customers must start using the 0860 number, and won't give the local direct POP numbers. They say "they will look into it"

Hmm. I hope someone can sort this mess out. I am not going to use any 0860 number if I can't use my infinitcall. I will rather cancel my contract with Mweb.
