Got news for you. According to Telkom, plus a bill I recently saw, and an old email I have from Tiscali, 0860 DOES NOT qualify for the infinitcall.
Just spoke to Telkom, who confirmed this.
Mweb tells me that some Telkom areas say it does, and some say it doesn't.
Can the Telkom billing depts be doing things differently in diff. areas???

Anyways...Mweb still insists all their customers must start using the 0860 number, and won't give the local direct POP numbers. They say "they will look into it"

Hmm. I hope someone can sort this mess out. I am not going to use any 0860 number if I can't use my infinitcall. I will rather cancel my contract with Mweb.

Chaos
I used to use 086 000 7249 when dialing in with lantic internet and spent a LOT of time online with Infinitcall. 0860 is a number which goes to the nearest POP, thats all.

0860 works with Infinitcall - all the 0860 number does is make it a local call no matter where you are in the country by dialing into the nearest PoP.

@Glock26: Where are you based? Here's the local telno for Pretoria if you want it: 0124830700

Thanks Ettubrute, but I'm East Rand. I use the 340-7500 number, and it works great for me, but keep getting nasty emails about not using it anymore.

Yes..I DO know what the 0860 number does...forwards to the nearest local number, but the fact remains that Telkom has the ability to exclude this from the Infiniticall offer and billing.

Now I do know that some claim to use Infiniticall with 0860 numbers, but I have also seen a bill where they did charge for it, and i spoke to Telkom today..and had them running around to supervisors before they came back to tell me that it doesn't qualify. Mweb also told me they get different answers every time they ask, and it looks like some areas might charge, and some not. How about someone tries to get a definite answer from Telkom (on paper!)
I have a feeling the general policy is that it is excluded, and if you haven't been charged before, and you point it out..then you might just start getting charged.

Funny thing is that Infiniticall isn't even listed as a call product on the Telkom page..it's almost like they don't want anyone to use it, and will probably phase it out over time. At least that's my take on it.

Don't just assume that you won't get charged for the full phonecall. Make your own enquiries and post back here. As for me, I'm still not going to use the 0860 numbers.

(as an aside...a Mweb techie basically told me on the phone that Mweb will tell me they are doing something about it, and then ignore it. He said things were a mess there, and they were screwing up everything and changing everything for the worse. Didn't expect that from an employee..but he seemed pretty pi$$ed at what they are doing behind the scenes. Time will tell I guess...but dial up is looking as dismal as ADSL is nowdays)

Ok well no use me putting any effort into this, I know for a fact 0860 numbers are what SAIX ISP's use, but MWeb is using IS so ja.. the national access number for SAIX ISP's is 086000 7249.

http://www.mweb.co.za/help/connect.aspx?pId=21593 - MWeb numbers

Infinitcall disappeared from the Telskom site as you said.. they're punting their Surfmore and SurfAnytime packages now.. theyre prolly getting sick of people on ISDN downloading 15GB/month with Infinitcall.. :)

Hey maby its not such a bad thing, MWeb are the highest priced ISP around in any case. Why would you want to sign up with them when you could save a fortune with @lantic or some other ISP, not really worth their value added services.

How would MWEB know that you are using a non-0860 number? The only ones who would know is Telkom. I dought whether Telkom will make the information on who dials what number available that easily.

The fact is, Telkom or MWEB can not "discontinue" the non-0860 numbers cause the 0860's are "forwarded" to a normal number anyways. They could perhaps, with a lot of costs and effort, change all the pop numbers, but somewhere someone will sniff/leak them out again anyways.

I just spoke to Telkom billing enquiries again, and they confirmed that 0860 numbers DO NOT work with Infiniticall.
This was confirmed by her and her supervisor.
Apparently only the Telkom Internet 0860 number works with it (typical...giving their customers preference) but no others.
Won't put it in writing yet..but I am pressing the matter, and expect some proof soon, which I will post here.
She says since 0860 is sharecall, and a special service, then no 086... numbers qualify except for the abovementioned Telkom one.

Not looking good for us with Infiniticall and being pressured to use the 0860 numbers. Just beware if you are dialing up with one. I will continue to use my local dialup number, but I think it is pretty lame of Mweb to try force everyone to change just because they obviously have some deal with Telkom to reduce their rates or effort.

Does not sound right to me, I cannot see any reason why 0860 numbers are not included, I could check my old phone bills and see

Sounds very possible, remember, 0860 numbers is part of sharecall, where client and server, end up paying something like 50/50.

What a rediculous system.

On the flipside, the Telkom/saix number is 08600 which isnt sharecall, so that should work without a prob. There is a difference between 0860 and 08600

Interesting ... I have a different set of POP numbers at http://new.mweb.co.za/help/connect_pop.html ... these are the ones from ICON - World Online - Tiscali.

I looked at my Sep 27 bill. Calls to the old SAIX number and the new MWEB 0860 006932 are both capped by InfinitCall. R7.97 exc VAT in August and R8.64 exc VAT from 1 Sept.

Despite what Telkom say, I believe 0860 numbers are covered by InfinitCall, unless somebody shows they've been billed otherwise. Or until Telbom kill infinitcall.

0860 is charged at local call rates hence is a local call hence is covered by infinitcall.. some people don't seem to believe that though because some knob somewhere in the depths of Telkom told them that it doesn't qualify for InfinitCall.

The SAIX 08600 is definitely capped by Infinit call. I have used it successfully, and I have even phoned telkom to check that the call charge was indeed a capped charge.

Hope this helps :)

I have also been using the infinit call charges for my dial-up to the 0860 number for the past 4 months, so whoever tells u that it doesnt work tell them to SHUT IT!!!!!! and by the way it works for national numbers too, i phone PE from JHB every night and it falls under inifinit call.......
