Hi All,
My standard paranoia about telkom conspiracy is on the boil again. ANyone with infinite call getting disconnects? Im in CPT and will quite often get 1 if not 2 disconnects during a weekend session. THis obviously suits Telkom down to the ground as they treble their somewhat measly income from me being a cheap ass power user.
I feel that telkom should just charge you one fee (The R10 call maximum for the weekend no matter how many times you connect (providing there are no calls made to other numbers between the disconnect. Thats fair no?
The other thing is that if you check the moemd log it nearly always says "Remote modem hung up", I realise these logs do lie on occasion but who else on infinite call is getting disconnects. Is there a patern?

I've been using InfintCall for years, with few complaints. I do think that the ISP is more to-blame for issues, than Telkom's service (in this specific area).

Get ADSL 348 @ R245 + a Cybersmart 3GB @ R100
Your total internet call charges will be R345 & get the telkom closer package (1000 minutes) @ R300 so you total phone & internet cost will be R645, only thing that sucks is that cellphone calls are not included in the closer package.

**ps - I am not promoting telscum, just trying to save you money...

That's one of the reasons I became a wireless user, frequent disconnects. I was on an ISDN 128 - so 2 calls each time I disconnected. My phone bill together with isp totalled R 950 +- @ times. Best u go with any other connection - ADSL or iBurst, well I dunno 'bout Sentech.

Try this util...
Code:
http://www.pgware.com/products/throttle/
Includes a "keep connection alive" setting.
Seems to work for me as I haven't had problems since using it and the good few fights with Telscum regarding dial-up speed and disconnects a few months ago...

For the past few months I've been getting disconnected alot.
Bill was between R400-R500 a month.
I used Atlantic as ISP.
I switched to WebAfrica 2 weeks ago. I got my first disconnect tonight.

So it was Atlantics fault for all my disconnections.

Switching to WebAfrica as ISP comes highly recommended from me. :D

PS. I'm on 56K. :(

If TelCon had un-metered local calls we would not have this sorry state of affairs in the first place, the mental suffering they have caused to thousands is a huge blot.... and then they wonder why we are so ticked of and make fun at Papi's stupid customers are the key press releases - Money first that what TelCon wants, all the animals on the notes... the worship of the beast

*Main thing to remember its not you its them..ALWAYS!!*

darned right!

For the past two weeks my infinite call have been disconnected all the time.
And I noticed a pattern, when I open utorrent and the speeds reaches somewhere over 5kbytes, then it disconnects me~
Probably ISP coz....
I'm on MWeb~

Re disconnects, Im not sure it is always the ISP, first thing to do is check how clean your line is...then blame either telkom or the ISP. Check your modem log and seee the reason for disconnect.

Re file sharing progs. I noiced stuff sometimes would not work at all or just died. I have a feeling that ISPs may mess with default port settings for popular sharing progs so its worth changing the default ports every now and then .

Re keep alive or connecton dropping I use
http://www.samspade.org/ssw/

excellent small prog that does all sorts of (usualy UNIX) DIGing and lookups etc, great free util.

I used to hav 2 disconnects every weekend but from sometime in August I have freqent DC, varies from 1-10 minutes, and no connection will stay alive longer than 5 hours....... I am in Rosebank JHB. BTW my ISP dialup is TELcum
Applied for ADSL and hope install as they claimed before 18th Sep.....
