Thought that everybody would like to know, if it hasn't been announced already, that Telkom has discontinued Infiniti Call on new lines as of the 1st of October 2005 :( Now this may not seem like a big deal to all the ADSL users but as a modem person who still can't quite afford ADSL (and quite honestly I don't want to get ADSL given what is happening on the 1st November) I'm left out in the cold. I'm sure as hell not paying R9 an hour for EVERY hour I'm on the internet!

Does everybody else know about this? I found out when applying for a new telephone line this morning

Hello OsireS

Welcome to the forum!

There have been a number of threads on the Infinitcall topic. Some have said it depends on who you speak to at the call centre. If you call again and DEMAND that it be activated seeing that "your neighbor has the service and that it would be discrimination if you can't have it" you may be able to get it activated.

Do a search for threads on Infinitcall and get your ammo ready before calling.

Good luck.

I think it might be a plot to convert extra dial-ups to adsl users

Nope..it's true. Heard about it a while ago. When I spoke to Telkom a few days ago, they confirmed it.
Apparently it is not available to new subscribers anymore. Old existing users can continue to use it, but no new subscribers.
Reasons are obvious. The only unknown is how long they will continue to allow us existing users to use it.

Btw..the reason I was given is that they are trying to promote their Surfmore packages. Typical....raising prices where they should be lowering them.

i for one hope the SNO does come out sooner than later... if Inifiticall for current subs get cut as well i might renounce online gaming as a whole and resort to LAN events... :(

I heard it as well.. a few ppl mailed in about it. Sounds like its only for new lines, existing ones keep the service but if youre moved you lose Infinitcall. Will make a few calls but as is customary with Telkom will prolly not get a straight answer.

Telkom keeps trying to entice me to get a Telkom line again. They are more than happy to let me have InfiniteCall, but want to make me pay a 'reactivation fee'. I told them to **** off.

Have recently moved, and asked teklom to move my subscription to the new address as well. No problem with the InfinitCall, they transfered it as it was part of the account. Only problem is there are no lines in my new suburb, thus I'm stuffed anyway! :(

This thing about infinitcall being discontinued is such rubbish, my girlfriend got a telkom phone line installed 2 weeks ago ( after the 1st october) and she asked for infinitcall and they gave it no issues, she asked if it were being discontinued and the person said they were just not advertising it anymore but if u specifically asked for it then they will give it to you. So as far as i am concerned (based on experience) Infinitcall was not discontinued come 1st of october.

I saw infinitecall on their pricelist the other day. I just went to their website to double check it - and it's amazing how often Telscum's website doesn't work!
I'm getting a 404 when going to www.telkom.co.za.
Damn, those idiots just do not know what they are doing!

No lines in your suburb??? Dude where do you live, in the Magotsies? :D

They eventually found a line! :D Took them 21 days from order to installation! The techie that finally came around, gets a 4 out of 5 for competence, but teklom as a whole got a 1 out of 5! :D

Yea, they told me the same thing when i asked them about it..

I think the only thing telkom ever did to promote Internet in RSA was nothing , even absa`s free internet did more !
