Infinity Ward bosses sacked by Activision

This is all about IW not getting the royalities it deserved from Act from MW2.

More drama to come, watch!
 
Hopefully this is a good thing, now the ex-IW people can create a new company, and make brilliant games, that the actual PC player want, again!!!!!
 
I guess from now on I won't just go out and buy COD games, I'm pretty sure activision will run them into the ground

Activision takes control of COD franchise future

With the departure of Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, most knew that something was up concerning the future of the Call of Duty franchise. Sledgehammer Games, which is an internal Activision studio, has assumed lead control of the Call of Duty franchise going forward.

Sledgehammer Games, led by Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey (who are known as former members of Visceral Games, which produced Dead Space) will be leading the team responsible for the 2011 Call of Duty release. Developer Treyarch, who will be releasing the next Call of Duty title this year, appears to continue as the co-developer of the series in order to maintain a yearly release for the franchise.

With this news, the future of Infinity Ward seems very likely in question. Beyond the fact that two map packs for downloadable content were still in the works at Infinity Ward, no one seems to know what the future fate will be for the studio. With the departure of Zampella and West, Infinity Ward will be led by Steve Pearce, with production to be headed by Steve Ackrich. Both are from Activision Publishing and not Infinity Ward, which could leave doubts to the future of the studio; but it seems that they will still be developing Modern Warfare 3 in the near term.

The decision to move in this direction is being driven by Activision’s desire to move Call of Duty into its own business unit and expand the banding and content over multiple type of gaming genres. The effect is said to be an attempt to duplicate the success that Blizzard has had with the World of Warcraft franchise.

The Call of Duty community seems to be in a state of shock over the announcements, with many commenting that the decision to effectively cut out Infinity Ward will lead to the end of the franchise. Others seem to think that the commercialization of the franchise will mean the end of innovation and keeping the game true to its roots. While this all remains to be seen, we think the announcement of Zampella and West’s departure will have far reaching ramifications that perhaps Activision is not anticipating with the fans and players of the game; and attempting to move the franchise in such a public display of commercialization could backfire.

Lols, now we can look forward to MW 3, MW4, call of duty future warfare (space combat), MW cart racing, MW poker, MW the movie, MW RTS..... and finally MW RPG.

Ousted Infinity Ward heads Vince Zampella and Jason West have remained silent since their unceremonious dismissal on Monday. However, the duo's lawsuit against Activision, filed yesterday afternoon with the California Superior Court, speaks volumes.
 
You forgot Mario Call of Duty and Call of Duty: The Sims Expansion.
 
Activision is clearly run by noobs. If one acquires a software company its important to keep everyone super happy....if you don't the talent GTFO the door asap and then you paid millions for an empty shell.

Thats OK though. The IW people will just start a new company without the fail & IWnet.

Not that simple. Long and expensive court hearings will have to determine who owns what rights concerning "rights of Titles" etc. See Activision bought it all, or rather that's what they think. The just fired two employees. So until the contracts expire that's how it will be unless the courts feel different about this whole injustice and mess! Kotick, I hope, will feel the pain and deserves what's hopefully coming.

Activision will not feel anything. MW2 filled their bank accounts to the brim. So maybe in a couple of years, yes.
I also read in some article, that the lawsuit is not only about the money, but possibly, to get control back, over the COD brand. I really hope that happens, as it will only mean great COD's in the future.
 
Do we really want another CoD game? Honestly? Another Modern Warfare? I got given MW2 a week ago and have only played an hour or so. It's a rehash of what was and has been done before. Unless they take a more tactical approach and add some realism to it, I don't want to see another CoD again (unless they go back to WW2). IMO they have tried to use the same combat style as CoD 1 for all their games. This worked great for CoD 1 and 2, but honestly made CoD 4 and MW2 feel like an arcadey load of horse ****. I enjoyed Halo on Xbox more; when you get hit, you actually regenerate health from your shield and not just Xmen Wolverine style like that of MW2. Why don't we have dedicated servers? Because MW2 belongs in an arcade machine in your local mall.
 
Yes, new COD please. For you it might suck, but to millions of other people it is pretty good. The numbers speak for themselves.
