Hi All

I am looking at starting a LAN and need some info. I would like to get something like "Liberty LAN "going but not to sure where to start. Lets say money isn't to big a problem. What would i need to get set up

Fast Internet
Lots of space
$$$
Advertise/Market it by word of mouth, post on gaming forums (MyGaming etc)
Get some RSVPs and work from there.

Liberty lan use to happen once a month in the east rand where you would pay R100 entry and lan your heart out.......got huge at a time, not sure if they are still doing it though.

I expect 5 people to watch my LAN, but OP might have different requirements.

Most important thing is fast internet because even though you will be lanning most games will still be online

Sad Liberty went away.
But giving the organizer's dad was a lecturer at the Electrical depart. I could see him getting flak.

As far as I know, getting a venue is usually the problem, the rates for the day would have to covered upfront.
Then don't forget that when the venue's owner notice its becoming popular they charge you all sorts of silly extra's.

As for the net thing, I'm not sure, liberty was a leech fest. So not sure what was the purpose of the internet was for besides steam authentication.

Security
Areas for sleeping
Ablution facilites
Power cables for all the machines.
network cables for all the machines.
Gigabit network switches.
Internet with enough bandwidth to run the games for everyone.
Router/other hardware to manage the bandwidth.

The last 2 are the biggest problem.
LANs are fading because:
a) a lot of AAA-Title games are now internet-only.
b) you can download anything you want at a reasonable speed now compared to even 5 years ago.

For me it's just too much hassle to go to a lan. I'd rather not and still play online with my friends.
