Infrastructure Solutions Designer x4. R750k. Braamfontein based. Strictly EE positions.
Purpose of the job
To create infrastructure solutions designs that address the business and IT requirements of the organisation in line with the infrastructure architecture principles and IT strategy thereby maximizing the strategic use IT investment. These designs will include hardware, operating systems and systems software technology components.
Key responsibilities
• To determine the current state and design the “to be” infrastructure solutions for business and IT projects including server, storage, security, networks, mail, end-user, telephony, middleware, data centre, monitoring, business continuity, archiving and cloud
• To evaluate and select appropriate systems software and hardware where existing technologies are unable to fulfil the business or IT requirements or where technologies are reaching end-of-life/support.
• To determine the costs associated with the proposed solutions designs
• To produce clear and concise technical documentation which is in line with the solutions design standards and are comprehensible by all relevant stakeholders. This includes capturing of the designs in the iServer design repository and producing the build docs.
• To engage with the Architects to ensure alignment of the designs with the architecture principles and “to be“ architectures
• To obtain buy-in and approval for the solution from business and IT stakeholders
• To obtain approval of the designs from the Security Design Authority and the Design Authority by delivering clear and concise presentations
• To participate in proofs of concept for new technologies or extensions to existing technologies
• To verify that the implementation complies with the solution design
• To stay abreast of new infrastructure technologies that will benefit our client by conducting research, engaging with vendors and attending training/conferences and presentations
• To demonstrate technology innovation and/or exploitation of the existing infrastructure stack
• To provide SME consultation to support business and the Group Technology Services division

A BSc in Computer Science or Information Systems, or relevant diploma or related certificates/training
Experience
This is an opportunity for someone who is either working in the solutions architecture/design space or who wishes to become a solutions architect/designer. We are looking for an IT professional who has experience across a broad range of IT technologies including server, operating systems, storage, database, security and networks.
• 6-7 years of broad based IT experience associated with server, operating systems, storage, security and network.
• Infrastructure solutions design experience in the above will be a distinct advantage
• Experience in IT Financial services will be advantageous
• Experience in research, technology evaluation and recommendations is required
Knowledge Good general knowledge of IT technology, how it all fits together and key trends in the industry.
