So...I was walking around in the Autocare section of Checkers looking for brake fluid (which they did not have btw) and I saw this injector and fuel system cleaners! I read instructions and they say you just pour the whole bottle into your petrol tank (when full) and off you go and it cleans your injectors and stuffs of hard deposits.

I am tempted. Should I? Will it damage my car? Any of you guys use this stuff? Feedback?

Don't waste your money. Any decent mechanic will tell you it's a gimmick, like DuraLube.

Q: A year ago, my car started making sputtering noises when I accelerated from an idle. I put fuel injector cleaner in the tank and the problem went away. Now, to be safe, I add fuel injector cleaner about every 10,000 miles. Is this good preventative maintenance, or am I doing more harm than good? Sincerely, ADAM J. BENNETT, Columbus, OH

A: Good plan. Keep it up.

Contrary to popular belief it actually does work, especially on older cars (like Nerfherder said) and when using low grade petrol.

Also it won't damage the car and it's not that expensive so I'd say go for it. I used Prolong in my first car ('82 Escort Sport) and it upped the fuel economy quite a bit!

Cool. Well, I just quickly drove to the the Caltex around the corner and got a bottle of Wynns injector cleaner. Dont laugh...but it took me like a minute to figure out how to open the fuel tank!!! Since when is counter clockwise the way to open something??????

Anyways....it is in so now we will see. :-) I will try Prolong with my next tank?

EDIT: Never mind..counter clockwise does infact appear to the the normal way. Tested some things in the fridge. I must have had a blonde aanval again. *sigh*

Wynns is good stuff. Prolong is not.

A bottle of injector cleaner is good halfway between services IMHO.

I use Wynns Diesel cleaner in my tractors every now and then.

Agreed, Wynns has got pretty good quality across the board on their products!

Wynn's will do just fine and believe the hype - it does work.

For a tubro diesel, they've got an additive that cleans the turbo as well.

COOL! I am excited now. I do believe everyone wants and should have a clean injector :-)

Toyota has their own in-house brand of injector cleaner. Works very well on the new D4D diesel engines which are notoriously unreliable with dirty diesel.

Very true, my brother is looking to sell his SRX DC because the second set of injectors is now also starting to act up.
