Insecticide for termites

The Outdoor ones are harmless. Healthy for your garden in fact.
Not the subterranean termites which are the ones he has, those are in fact the most destructive.

You're thinking of the harvester variety

I made some calls today - guys refuse to sell the bait stations, they're only willing to make them available on a contract (subscription) basis. I hate money gouging.

Why the flip do I need to take out a contract if all I need it is to pop some bait in the ground around the tree?

My insurance covers this type of event. Maybe check with yours?

Try Agrimark or Co-op type places.

Exterminator, they'll need to treat around the property as well. It does last about 5 years
7 year guarantee according to the guy that did mine. Luckily we caught them early enough. Came through the outside and ate one of cupboard side boards.

They ended taking about 6 hours to do the house properly, with the drilling and pumping of the poison. And the poison is kak expensive

Yeah might have been 7 years, which come to think of it, it's been that :)
Glad they got yours in time, mine didn't get into the house luckily.

Eish. The guys have moved in to my garden... We noticed mud tunnels up the trunk of a large tree, and closer inspection confirmed the presence of the squatters. Fortunately they're not in the house, but unfortunately they do need to be removed. Is there a DIY option, or am I at the mercy of an exterminator?
I have the exact same issue on one of my trees. Did you manage to find a way to kill them?

I did a bit of research and decided to target colony extermination, and not just contact killing the buggers. Fipronil is the go-to for this, but it's pretty hard to come by. I managed to get hold of a bottle and have plenty left over, but I'm in Pretoria.

This sounds like a post for the "everything is deteriorating" thread. I experienced the same with garden services. Had a lawn which was grossly overgrown when I moved in years ago, and asked the guy at the neighbour's house how much for a one time trim.

He said sorry, only contract. No one time jobs. I told him to fokof.

They are really not that hard to kill. Just buy the appropriate poison and treat the affected areas then keep an eye out for any new colonies. I seem to get a colony every 2-3 years and for the most part a single treatment has taken care of them with normal hardware store stuff.
The little black ants on the other hand is a constant maintenance headache.
