Inside Lift's new aircraft

South Africa’s new domestic airline Lift has opened online bookings for flights for two routes - Johannesburg to Cape Town, and Johannesburg to George – which are set to start on 10 December.

Lift is a collaboration between Global Aviation, Kulula founder Gidon Novick, and ex-Uber executive Jonathan Ayache.
Booked my flights to Cape Town January 2021. All excited!! Best wishes to Lift Airlines for many years of Lift off✈️

Lift put a lot of focus on flexibility, which will allow travellers to easily change their flight dates without any penalties.

Love it personally. As a business strategy though - mega triple jikes. The thing that makes the razor thin margins in airline work is charging a premium during peak times - usually via live computer modelling. That's not happening if people can switch dates without penalties. Major airlines charge cost of fare difference plus a penalty for a reason.

Uber huh? The Uber of surge pricing during peak times fame? Almost like charging a premium during peak times?

Anyway...I think they might be OK anyway despite of their strategy not because of it...thanks to SAA vaccum

The flexible scheduling rules are probably limited up to a certain number of hours before departure, otherwise it's not that hard for a few rich trolls to sink the airline if they mass book and reschedule/cancel hours before departure. That wine tasting sounds nice but is probably gimmicky, used to entice passenger bookings and I doubt it will last long.

Im sure you will still have to pay a fare difference if there is one, but no "change" fee - like other airlines charge

Ever tried to book a flight during peak times? Prices are ridiculous - all airlines charge a premium during peak periods. Supply vs demand.

Looks like they've got a total fleet of 7 A320's. They're all quite old aircraft, roughly about 31 years old.
Is it 7? Ok then i was misinformed - 7 is better and takes into account mechanicals and maintenance rotation, esp on the older frames

3 Active and 4 in storage. It will definitely help with the rotation of aircraft when mechanical/technical issues do hit.

That's exactly my point. If they don't penalize date changes then you can just book it in off peak & move the flight into peak

Meaning either they get hammered financially or they'll need to backtrack on their claim...the claim they are pushing as their main value proposition

That makes it a fair less interesting proposition tbh but makes a lot more sense
