Been having some bad insomnia for the last 3 weeks. Started 1 night when I wasn't able to fall asleep at all, not the best timing since I had to write an exam like that :wtf: Since then unless I take some kind of sleeping tablet no matter what time I go to bed I'll be up till around 4am easy. Am currently on Biogen Melatonin which is suppose to be almost all natural and go to bed around the same time every night with them and gonna start reducing the dosage slowly now and hopefully it'll be all fixed. Anyone else here had any similar insomnia issues like this and how did you manage to sort it out?

how close to sleep do you study? you shouldn't be learning or doing anything in that regards about 2hours before you goto bed else your mind will be processing afaik. stress ? funky food ? quite a few things that throws off your sleeping patterns...

I had it for a few years.

My best fix up to this day is a glass of milk before I go to bed (warm milk if possible). Some Nesquik, Cocoa or Hot Chocolate will give me the fix as well.

Recently drinking my usual meds just knocks me out by itself :p.

Well during exam time I normally stop studying around 10-11pm and would go to sleep around 12 cause I don't concentrate well when I'm tired. I thought stress might have been a factor but its been uni holidays these last 3 weeks and it hasn't been getting better, like Friday night I didn't have any sleeping tablets and I think I only manage to properly fall asleep around 6am. I don't eat any more than the usual funky food, have stopped drinking any caffeine related drinks at night now to try help. Thought it also may have been because I spent a lot of time in my room studying & my pc is there that my body just adjusted to it, same concept as when you study on your bed you normally get tired cause your body knows when you're on your bed its normally where you sleep.

Sleeping pill's are not the best way. Get an prescription tablet that make you "relax" and when you feel "you care less" then try to sleep. Do not try and force yourself to sleep as I found that actually have the reverse effect.

I had it bad a couple years back and it really messed with my mind. Some have been mentioned in posts above but these things really helped me:

1. Go to bed and get up at the same time everyday
2. No matter how tired you feel don't sleep/take a nap outside of hours in 1. above.. otherwise you will mess up your routine
3. Don't engage in mind activities before you go to bed. Studying is out, as well as computing/tv/etc. Light reading is fine but the best is to
4. Learn some basic meditation. <- amazingly helpful
5. Warm drink, preferably milk, before you sleep
6. Exercise regularly

Also, sleeping tablets are only short term solution since you develop a resistance to them and they are not healthy. XLR's advice about not trying to force it is also sensible, your body knows how to sleep, you don't need to consciously tell it how to do so really the easier you can let go of stress and thinking too much each night the easier it will be to sleep!

Good luck :)

Had a friend who went to see some sleep specialists. They told her to try and sleep at the same time everyday and that it takes 21 days for your body to adjust. So you have to keep the above mentioned for 21 days then you should be fine.

BTW, I also have similar problem, the best solution I have found is exercise. The harder the better !
