Hi. I am going to get an HD PVR from Makro today and I am wanting to know if it is possible for me to get all the equipment and install it myself.

I used to have a single view decoder, so I have an idea where the dish was pointing. There is still a cable running to where I want to use the decoder.

If I can do it what do I need?
Dish, well that goes without saying!!
Twin LNB plus more cable?
A 4 way splitter?
Anything else?

Does the decoder normaly come with a smartcard?

cheers

Dish, Twin LNB and of course cable.

Your biggest problem is getting signal to the dish. You sort of know where it was pointing at but they are quite sensitive.
Best of luck there.

You do not need a splitter. A splitter is only used for extra view.
Decoder does include smartcard.

You make it sound easy, lol.
Thats great, thanks :)

If you get a SatCr LNB, you don't need the second cable or the switch. Single cable from the LNB into the back of the decoder. Less cable, no switch, looks neater but probably a bit more and expensive to replace if something goes wrong.

I had mine installed on the weekend, decided against the DIY route. Now have 100% strength and 98% quality and didn't have to lift a finger (except going to buy the decoder of course).

I installed my own. Replaced the single LNB with an ellies dual, and replaced the existing cable... which was the hardest part. Plugged in, configured the LNB in the decoder settings, and away I went.

crucial thing is to get your alignment right, shouldn't be too much of a problem if you still have the old dish installed, if not it can get tricky. Check out the DSTV forums lots of advice and help there.

has this become you standard question? :D

if you woried u can actauly use the decoder (with the sugnal strentgh nebue( to alighn the lnb if it goes out

Lol. No I was really worried about it. But since doing it, I would do it again.
