This was rather irritating.

Applied to have ADSL installed at our home and to do so obviously entailed having the telephone line installed (grrrrrr).

Got the call today to advise that they are proceeding and that the charges would be an installation cost for the line and an installation cost for the ADSL. I advised her that I would be opting for the self-install option on the ADSL so as not to incur the installation cost.

She advised me that she would then be cancelling the ADSL order and that I would have to place the order for self install after the telephone line is installed.

On my initial order online for both the line and the ADSL it even asked if I wanted to get Telkom to install or if I wanted to install myself.

WTF?

All this to tell iBurst to shove their product.

Same happened to me when I went to the Telkom shop. When I phone new services the person told me it was not true. In the end I ordered a service (cant remeber the name hehe) for R30 more a month with no installation costs (phone & line) and a self install for dsl. Funny thing is, dsl is working but the phone is not (cant make any calls). They still havent contacted me with the installation date so I just use the dsl line :)

So you basically paying your installation off over a year then ;-)

Its Closer 2 I think. Any of the Closer packages from 2 upwards give you free installation. You can cancel them after a month if you like and still not pay installation. After the installation's done you can then apply for ADSL and not pay ADSL installation. Stupid I know. You can also apply for your ADSL line from an ISP.
