HOW.... DO.... I.... DO..... THIS????

Before you ask, no I don't have the XP installation disk handy, Most companies don't let you keep that sht, and most companies don't even keep an audit of which pc's match with which disks.. Microsoft knows that. Do they actually think OS install disks don't go missing or get damaged, or disgarded? Ofcourse they don't believe that, they just like to pretend they do because it serves them..

Im NOT going to spend a week trying to get the appropriate install disk from my queries dept. They always fk everything up anyway, they WILL give me the wrong disk, because they suck

Suggestions?

The only way I can see to install is by control panel, add remove progs, add remove components, selecting IIS and inserting disk or finding files. Can't find the files in win dir or sys 32...

It seems I specifically need this for sql server express.. and its pretty pathetic that they don't provide it with the install if they know its going to cause sht..

And no possibility of using apache instead?

Otherwise, AFAIK, it's not possible without the installation files (which, if not installed at boot time, are only available on the disc)

Urgh..

No worries, someone here has a "anykey" install disk that I can use.

I am finished with my Microsoft rant for today

You need ANY XP Pro install disk... the i386 folder on it has the files... if it's not installed, those files are NOT on your PC.

I recommend Apache if you don't need ASP, but I assume you are going the IIS route because you do?

There's IIS for XP? I thought it was a baby version called Personal Web Server?

Try Apache, or if possible, copy the i386 folder (if it is copied onto another machine) to your machine. Otherwise, good luck obtaining a WinXP Disk from your queries dept by the looks of them...!

If all you awnt to do is have a personal web server, or small office web server - hey maybe even a full blown web server running on an XP machine - I can't recomment any better than Xampp - simply the best little apache/mysql/etc etc server for XP or 2000 2003 - whatever you want to run. I run joomla, SMF forums and many more things on this awsome server....

SQL Express needs IIS for Reporting Services,

You'll still can still install it without IIS, just won't get Reporting Services.

You can use virtual directories to get around the 1 site issue.

but i think you will still be limited in the number of active connections you can have at a time, 5 or 10 from memory.

you need the i386 folder, check if the kind techie who did the install copied it over to the hard drive.

Why on earth not... and it's not a registry hack - its for editing the IIS metabase.
