Good day All

Just installed Lion on my Mac and have picked up two problems with Birdstep Connection Manager:

1. It requires Java for OS 10.7 to be installed. It's available free on www, but you can't connect to download it. So, you have to know to download it BEFORE you upgrade if your dongle is the only way you connect to the internet. Failing that, you need to go somewhere where there is free wifi and download Java.

2. The app keeps on shutting down, but the connection remains. Odd. Very odd. Right now, the modem is connected, but the app isn't running and I'm able to surf. If I want to shut the connection down, or look at anything on the connection manager, I have to restart the app, and it carries on where it left off. Seeing the connection remains, it's not the biggest deal in the world, but doesn't work like it should. I'm attaching a screen grab of the error – this is the fourth time its happened.

Hope this helps, and please and feed back will be appreciated.

Regards
~AM~

Dear Sir,
I'm a support engineer with Birdstep Technology and just want to say that this issue has been resolved in a patch that is currently under testing from your Telco.
It should be available for download very soon. It will remove the need for Java for 10.7 and also fix the client GUI crashing.
For further questions please refer to your telco and they can contact our support division.

Good news then? I do not use the Connection Manager because it uses JAVA (lazy out for programmers).

The reason the connection remains persistent is because the PPP network management happens outside of the app. For example, on SL you can force-quit the app but the connection will persist - it is a network function.
