installing new cpu

so as the title suggests, i bought myself a new cpu...

...now is it as easy as removing the old one (cpu, heatsink and fan), and just replacing everything that i removed with the new cpu?

Same architecture chip with a standard HSF = remove and replace

If the new CPU came boxed with everything required YES!

If the new CPU is just the chip you have to clean the surfaces of the heatsink/fan and add new heatsink compound!
 
heatsink compound? so i guess the boxed cpu doesn't contain that though....

or don't you need it, it the cpu is boxed with heatsink and fan?

The included heatsink will generally ship with a small amount of thermal compound already applied (visible as a pad on the area that contacts with the processor). This is often enough, but it is recommended to purchase some of your own (Arctic Silver is a good buy) and apply it. It is also recommended to first remove the existing compound, but not always necessary.
 
well bud, depends, is it the same CPU as wat fits the motherbored?? For instance if u got a AMD X2 mainbored... is the CPU a AMD X2?? Look into that!
 
it was an e2140 now q6600 - and mobo is p4m900t-m

so according to site, mobo and new cpu is compatible. now its just, how to install the darn thing
...i wish i don't need heatsink paste, as then i'd have to wait till the w'nd to install it
