ok, i have always been under the impression that i have sp2 installed on my pc. yesterday i found out, its sp1.

now i have sp2 that i got from someone. but when i want to install it, the install screen that you normally see when you install windows comes up.

is this correct?

and will this remove any of my data on my hd?

leek question i know, but i am clueless

Well when I got my SP2 CD from Microsoft I remember just slapping it in and installing. It doesn't delete anything AFAIK..

This being the full XP SP2 CD or just a SP2 .exe update file?

service pack or Windows update shouldn't remove any files on your HD...

if it's the Windows CD with SP2 built in, then you can do a repair installation, which will keep your files and programs intact and leave you with SP2 installed.

i got the file from a friend, so its the exe...

....but as i say, the screen that comes up when you run the file, looks exactly like the screen when you install windows

thats not right man

it should be a small box in the middle of your screen

sounds like a virus or something else your doing is wrong

agreed...

...think i must rather ask around if someone has it one cd, as i am not gonna chance it

thx again for everyones input

its gonna be a big download, i suspect

thx for the offer DV, i might just have to take you up on it, if i can't find anywhere

hell, thats huge....my 3g bill will break the bank
