I wish to create a separate partition for Ubuntu 8.10 on my macbook. I have the downloaded Ubuntu 8.10 disk for intel. The files are .exe and not sure how to get things to work...any help?

I only attempted this with hardy but you'll need to create a bootcamp partition, when you restart your mac hold down the option key and select the ubuntu cd once installed just select the windows partition using the option key to load ubuntu.

I just figured it out using Parallels. Gonna give it a good try.

You can create the partition from within OsX via the Disk utility.

but the partition format is only for mac? Am i missing something? So far enjoying the look around the OS.

I made a partition using bootcamp and I booted the ubuntu 8.10 live cd. When I get to the partition part in the installation, it says it might delete the windows boot loader. Does linux think that this is the windows boot loader but it actually is the mac boot loader or am I doing everything right?

u must make sure ur partition scheme is GUID, when u create another partition, u can format it as fat32. Although when u install ubuntu/any other OS u can usually reformat that partition during installation.

I managed to get things working. But thank you very much. Well tried it out off the cd (once I created another one properly) and decided I won't use it, but will on another PC. To me mac still is the nicest. IMO though :)
