Instant messaging - instant doom...

Its all been mentioned before and everyone should know about the dangers of the internet by now - pretty much everything is threat nowdays. It just like email viruses - users just need to use kop and don't open attachments they don't know who they are from. For a corporate though IM is a nightmare - just like Skype which is why it gets blocked.

Yes, good points. But I didn't know that corporates were blocking IMs as well:confused:
 
CirclingTheSun: I'm also a linux guy and would choose Linux over MS any day, but I'm afraid to say Linux has got a long way to go for end users. They are barely managing to use windows as it is. Although everyone knocks MS - they do have some good packages - take Exchange for example, an excellent piece of software for the corporate, and they've done a good job of getting a usable OS for the end user.

sky.akash: You pretty much have to block everything - you can't have users running wild on the net. With IM there's also no logging of who goes where etc etc. If something happens on IM and you need to take it to court there's no information trail. This together with information leakage this can only lead to IM being blocked.

Yes, i agree were not there yet but linux has made some major leaps in the last lil while. Have you tried out the ubuntu gutsy tribe 5? I just plugged in my printer and it installed it without me even having to press a key. Frikkin ridiculous! With feisty i was still hacking away at config files. Ubuntu isnt ideal for all users but i reckon when gutsy is released in october we're pretty much there when it comes to everyday browsing, multimedia, word processing...

Ps. I dont personally use evolution (im happy with thunderbird) but apparently its a pretty good alternative to exchange.
