Thanks. I'll give it a bash, but honestly it's not something that particularly worries me.

I agree. I do occasionally hear the advantages of 5.1 and the costs was just one optical cable and a couple of settings but it also does not bother me.

Should be

HD PVR's HDMI into audio receiver's HDMI
HD PVR's optical/co-ax into aurio receiver's optical/co-ax

Not sure what your audio setup is though.

Yip. As PP suggested.

But you can try to only use the HDMI cable and if you don't get sound, use the optical/coax.
