Hi,

Maybe someone here can advise me on this. I had an accident between 1 and 10 September 2009 and I have been with MiWay since June 2012. When I joined them I had to tell them about the accident since it happened within the past 3 years.

Since my accident has been more than 3 years ago, I asked them to recalculate my premium since I did not have an accident on my name (In the last 3 years) anymore, but they said it is not possible since they "know" about it... What ****ing bull**** is that? If I call another insurance company now I won't have to say **** about my claim because it was more than 3 years ago. So why can't they recalculate my premium?

I would prefer not to move from MiWay to another company but it seems that is my only option? :wtf: Doesn't make sense at all?

I'm with Outsurance and also considering moving, I just traded in my car on a new one for the wife and took over my wife's old car. Unfortunately I had a minor bumper bashing last year, so suddenly just by changing driver on the same vehicle my insurance on that vehicle has gone from just over R500 p/m to over R800 p/m. I've checked with other insurer's and they all ask if I've had an accident in the last year and they're all still quoting me back in the region of R500, so it's just a rip off all round

and based on what I've seen so far it looks like I can also get the wife's new car insured cheaper elsewhere as well

Its super bull**** . Cany anyone recommend a good place except Miway and Outsurance?

Where abouts are you?

I would suggest dealing with a decent broker

I'm with Mutual & Federal for the past 5 years and learned the following:

1. Places like Miway and Outsurance bash on marketing costs but skimp on client services.
2. Go to firm like Mutual & Federal, Santam etc and stick with them for the long run, the longer you are the better your premiums will get and you'll have a better track record. They will probably cost you R100 a month more etc in comparison with Outsurance but at least you know you won't have any hassles when it comes to claiming. I recently tried a quote from Outsurance for shts and giggles, my current insurance on 2007 gets is around R400 pm for comprehensive and no co-payment (which is excellent for 28 year old, been in 1 crash and claimed another time when they broke into my flat - think I need to pay 2 more years' premium to equal my claims:D), the best I got was R460 and must make co-payments when claiming and also needed to get a tracker I think which is also additional monthly cost! Tried to get my R200 they say they'll pay you when they can't beat your insurance to no avail, such scamsters!
3. The same goes for medical insurance..

Just my 2c.. goodluck!

Will give you the broker I use in Moorreesburg(Western Cape), very good and quick..

I learned my lesson last year with MiWay. In the end I just sold the car as-is, with the accident damage...

MiWay, Outsurance, Auto and General, Budget, First for Woman (what a gimic) are all a joke, and will screw you over eventually.

Go to a place like Mutual and Federal or Santam for proper vehicle insurance.

Agree. Too many direct companies try and confince the public they will get a better offer by skipping the middle man. Middle finger to them all - wife was on First For Women and was paying R400pm, we got a broker and now she is paying R200 for less excess and more cover.

Be very very carefull with ALL of them when it comes to declaring previous accidents! I am certain they share info when needed. If your contract asks for a declaration and you "forgot" the previous accident, you open yourself up for a old trick in the insurance business. They will let you join at the lower premiums but if the popo hits the fan they will pull the rabbit out of the hat and won't pay. And YES, Santam does that too! Apparently they have investigators doing nothing else then searching for past issues. And no prisoners are taken!

So? That sound pretty reasonable if you lie about your risk profile.

+1 I am with Santam through a broker and wouldn't change for anything!!! I have to say the broker is excellent though but Santam have also always come to the party with claims.

All these places are very gimmicky, bonuses and cash back and mumbo jumbo about cutting out the middle man and saving you money, mean while back at the ranch when you actually have to deal with them on simple matters it becomes a nightmare and impossible, purely because they have hoards and hoards of customers that are only there to save 50c a year. Get a decent broker and stick with a less off the shelve insurance company.

This is perfectly legit...

If you lie, then accept the kark that will come your way.

But when I moved insurance companies recently, the question was very specific "Have you had any accidents in the last 3 years". If its older than that they don't care.

I do agree... If I was lying. My accident was September 2009. Thus if they ask me if I had any accidents in the last 3 years, I am not lying. MiWay is just being douchey

Call psgkonsult. They have branches around SA http://www.psgkonsult.co.za/contact/branch_offices.php

Personally I use their Kempton Park branch, Jean Duplessis on 011-922-4000

They are not only giving descent premiums but the service when you claim is great.

FYI

During the underwriting process, when you declaring your previous record, ask them to check on their system as well to verify. All major insurance companies have access to your claim history (domestic/vehicle).

+1 You will find the cheapest quotes at M&F because their brokers have a discount mandate through which they can lower the premiums and beat any other company's premium. They also have the excess waiver option for those over the age of 30.

I also heard that M&F took Outsurance to the ombudsman for presenting false information via their add, stating Outsurance are cheaper than the other companies. Outsurance has lost the case and has to issue an apology for misleading the public.

Outsurance is a highly unethical company. For short-term insurancre, Santam and M&F is the best.

Does anyone here have experience or opinion on Alexander Forbes?
Looks like I should try mutual and federal out.

Alexander Forbes is a bit odd. They provide insurance, or act as a broker for other insurance companies. Can't really comment on the claims.

Depending on what you want, there are quite a few options. Santam is perceived as THE insurance company in South Africa currently, but if you do your homework a bit, you might get better smaller insurance companies. I've opted for Indequity (via a broker). They cover persons with a 4 year degree (because the actuaries determined they are lower risk) and generally have no "excess" (also known as first amount payable). Compared to Santam's quotes, they were on par, but Santam had excess of on average 10%. They are NOT cheaper, but the cover is really good.

So, at the end, you need to ask WHAT you want out of your insurance. Cheaper, generally means more restrictions and higher excess. Higher premium, normally provides less restrictions (called exclusion in insurance terms) and less excess.

Regarding the accident and adjustment of premiums. MiWay should still be able to give discount as your risk factor is lower, unless their pricing model works on a scale e.g. 0 years without accident, 1-3 years without accident, 3-5 years etc, which they can't really change the premium.
