Good Day

I am looking to get get a damage report for my Samsung 43 UHD Smart Flat LED TV? It was damaged as an accident by my toddler, so the screen panel is severely damaged. It still turns on and images are possible, but with broken LCD lines all over. I am under the impression, the LCD panel is not worth it to repair, just buy a replacement.

Is there any forumite that can assist me in obtaining a report or provide me with assistance of where I can ask for one? The insurance requires it but how much will it cost to get a specialist out just to tell me it is broken?

Thank you in advance.

That's why your policy has an extension called claims preparation costs.
A decent insurer will cover the cost of the quote as well.

Are you sure this covered in the first place? This isnt typically covered under general home content this needs to be added.

Accidental Damage is an extension with a average limit of R10 000
All decent policies have it and some included

Thanks for the updates so far.

If you replace a TV's LCD panel, is it viable or is it 1 of those components that basically means replace the whole device?

From a cost point of view, generally cheaper to replace the whole device.

I googled a bit (Literally, TV Repair near me) and seems most TV repair services are capable of doing it, without the need to come out initially.

If you see the LCD is cracked, they require photos of the TV while on showing it and exact model details. They say they do not repair screens like above post stated. So the fact that it is a broken screen, they can easily assist you with the necessary documentation.

Just note, price varied a lot, from the 4 places, R550 for most expensive and R200 for cheapest. They ask if it is for insurance, which means they know you can claim it back depending on policy, so some places hike their assessment just for the point of it.

Thank you for the assistance in this manner. Appreciate it

Same with me on my Samsung S8 though. Everyone charges for a damage report so as a last resort I took it to a Samsung store specifically the Samsung Store in Mall of Africa in Midrand. They gave me a report and quote for free. The repair was twice as expensive as the other places but the insurance approved the quote and paid out.

If you fail you can give your closest Samsung store a call and ask them if they can assist. They do quotes and assessments for all their products free of charge.

Bumping this with a quick question.

Power-surge killed my 5 year old Hisense TV. Got a quote for repairs at R2.5k.
Insured for surges killing electronics up to R10k with no excess.

Should I just pony up for the repairs or haggle with the insurance ?
