Insurance interrogated me

I was with Santam, and they insisted that I fit a tracker in my new car - apparently if it's insured for over R300 000 they want a tracker. I asked my broker to get a price without a tracker and was told that it was mandatory. I then asked about other companies, and we moved all my business across to Mutual and Federal, who didn't insist on a tracker.

It makes sense that they want a tracker for an expensive vehicle.
Not that I would like a stolen car back again. If the thieves haven't damaged it, the police will.

Had the same nonsense with Outsurance. Will never be using them again

He (the driver) is listed as secondary driver and the insurer/representative claim he is the primary driver (policy holder).
If he is indeed primary, the claim can be rejected.

As explained here:

Tks cpu.

Jeez nothing's straightforward.

King price would not offer hijack/theft cover for my car without a tracking device, but at-least they did offer discount on the device.

Santam did not have that requirement, but offered me discount on my premium, because I had it. Very happy with santam atm.

from time to time i get upset about how expensive my insurance is for no apparent reason and then theze storys of outsurance and budget and the rest come out and then im like oooo rigghht thats why.

im with momentum btw and must say insurance except for the cost has never been a headache for me

How should the op have responded to the investigator, when and how should he have called the shots when the investigator went from normal assessing the situation to throwing around wild claims without concrete evidence to see what sticks?

Not easy to deal with those situations where some hard nosed investigator starts playing mind games, good cop/bad cop and getting up in your face.

Get yourself a company which looks for ways to pay your claim. Stay away from those who do not.

Good luck with that. You obviously do not understand the insurance business.:D

You will find horror stories from clients of every insurance company. I have seen the least from Outsurance - especially from a clients vs. complaints perspective.

Same here. Have half my portfolio with them, the other half with a specific 4x4/overland insurance company. Outsurance have only been awesome, in premiums and pay-outs.

This is interesting, I have always wondered why my insurance company never asks me to install a tracker in a new car while everybody else claims that they cannot get insurance without a tracker. They obviously go for the cheap and nasty 'insurance companies'

Friggin broad brush you painting with there. 4 Vehicles with insurance companies (None the one you work for) No requirement for a tracking device.

I have 2 vehicles. Neither have tracking devices.

I assume they'd have reasonable reasons for requiring it in specific vehicles.

Might be specific vehicles lie VW and Toyota (High risk manufacturer), but also certain models and vehicles valued over Rx.

I'm with Santam, have been for years, my last 3 cars were all over that value and without a tracker. Someone is lying to you.

Actually the more expensive the vehicle is the more likely that the manufacturer will void your warranty / motor plan if you mess with it's security system and / or electronics in any way / shape / form. Meaning you can't install a tracker in many cases.

You can opt for the cheapest approved tracking system. It usually works with gprs - you call them after something happens. No cables to cut, they just hide it somewhere in the car with its own battery (lasts about 3 years apparently).

I had the same with Santam, it was the reason I changed to Mutual and Federal.

There's no issue here. I suspect OP is indeed the primary driver and hence lied to get lower insurance costs.
If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.

I'd be interested to know if the op has resolved his issue?
