I had 2 x 19inch LCD dell monitors - total replacement value 4K
We had a burglary and these 2 items were part of the loot taken
According to the assessors report the replacement value noted for these 2 are R2700 in total - i didn't think too much of it since they usually arrange huge discounts with the suppliers. Anyway i asked if i could just have one LCD screen but with higher specs than getting 2 in return for the total replacement value.

Their "suggested replacement" is the Samsung 2333SW+ valued @ R2200 and i checked yesterday that it was on special on Kalahari for R1799.95 incl. VAT

So for a R4000 replacement value they think i'm stupid enough to settle for half of that - WTF !!
I have asked the insurance company to request a "cash payout" so i can source my own replacement. This is insane....
Any recommendations for LCD monitors?

Insurance, medical aid.....all the same..

the samsung 23" will be good imo..

You can almost get a 26 inch with a 2.7k though :), rather get a cash payout dude.

T260 25.5 WIDE TFT, 1920 X 1200, 5 Millisecond, 20000:1 Contrast Ratio, Analogue/DVI/HDMI, Swivel, Tilt Stand, MagicBright3 R 2,999 excl. R 3,418 incl.

yea, that 23inch Samsung is nicely priced - that is a good buy.
T260 would be ideal as the single replacement, nice to know that prices are coming down.

Waiting on the insurance co. for a reply to my "cash payout" request.

Including cellphone companies, Eskom and the municipality.... they just keep on taking and give very little back.

For R2200 you can get the 2494HS.

Unless these monitors were insured under an All Risks policy you can forget being settled for their purchased amount. Your loss was/is indemnifiable under a contents or householders (H/H) policy. Be grateful that your sum insured was adequate and no average was applied to your claim.

Sorry for loss mate, and yes you can request a cash pay out or cash-in-lieu of replacement.

seems ur more pissed off at the insurance ppl than the burglars :D

Argue with the assessor. If your monitor was a "premium" / "gaming" / "medical grade" / etc LCD monitor and the suggested monitor is not of similar grade, they are not comparing the monitors properly.

As for discounts that the insurance organizes: Are you mad?
I used to work for a company that did insurance assessment/replacements. The companies load extra margin on wherever they can and try punting the cheapest possible options to the insurance company to win the deal. Part of this is due to the insurance companies taking forever to payout to the supplier.
