Dont worry. Im a responsible kid who keeps the fast stuff for the track.
AND... I do not drink, not even a sip![]()
That is really great to hear! I think that an Advanced Course should be part and parcel of EVERY young guy about to hit the road!
Now I am starting to relax about you driving the Opel!!![]()

Ok...erm, what will the or should the premium be for a 2007ish G5 GTi white for a 24 y.o getting 25 in Nov?
And who's going to pay for it? Also wondering, does your professional qualification matter for your car insurance premiums? even if you are under 30. And if it does, how much?
Paying for it will be your own baby, and in an ideal world, it should be part of your 18th birthday present! If you can afford to fork out a couple of hundred k on your son or daughter, the extra 3.5 k is not negotiable IMHO.
And to answer your second question - YES, all I did was forward my Advanced Driving Diploma to my Insurance company, and I've received a discount ever since. exactly how much, I haven't a clue.
What if (like in my case) daddy wasn't rich and the percentage relative to the car cost is a good 10%+? Maybe the government should make it an extra tax so that everyone pays for new drivers' training, would be a good idea. I get the feeling that you wouldn't be too inclined about it then, would you?
By qualification, I actually meant education/degree. i.e. do they stereotype your premiums with respect to what you've studied/are studying? I know of PPS and that they only offer to holders of certain degree, but that's all I know. Never been much into insurance, don't ever intend to get any.
Nice idea for the government to pay for it, but seeing as they aren't even into paying teachers and nurses, we'd better not go there!
Why do you get the feeling that I wouldn't be inclined to pay a little bit extra every month so that people could drive? OF COURSE I WOULD!! I was driving way before you were probably born, and driving safely has been hammered in to me from day one. If we could get a nation of decent and responsible drivers, I would be 20000% behind it!
As for qualifications, I guess that they might be able to say that if you had the intelligence to get a degree, then you should be OK to insure at a lower rate.................................however...................the last bit of your sentence is rather disturbing. If one cannot see that Insurance is not even an option, then I guess we won't be going down the discount for brains bit.....
With respect to Insurance, I will simply say what I have done before, and we had a long thread on this subject a couple of months back if you want to go back and check.
To drive around without Insurance is just plain stupidity. If you think that you are such a brilliant driver that you will be able to preempt and avoid every single situation that is going to chuck a curved ball at you and avoid an accident then you might as well start gathering a religious following because the next thing you'll be walking on water and changing water into wine.
Driving in South Africa one takes one's life into one's hands every day, whether it is from Kamikaze taxi drivers, pedestrians who don't know how to appreciate the speed a car is travelling, to goats and dogs roaming the streets. And, that doesn't even start to count the number of stir crazy drivers out there who thought that the laws were written for somebody else. Then lets add theft/hijacking which is another very real possibility...and please, I am not the sort of person who gets hysterical about either of those factors, but I am a realist.....to say that Insurance is simply there to rip you out of a few hundred bucks every month is plain bloody stupid. Just ONE accident in which you were inadvertently in the wrong, and just happened to kill some soul, would have you and your family paying millions to that person's family...but...sorry, I forget, I am talking to someone who thinks that Insurance companies only exist for profit.
Finally, as far as paying the government to give us extra lessons, you brought up the subject. If I knew that I was dealing with a government that would help people to become decent drivers, I stick with what I said that I would happily pay towards that fund, but then of course we would also be living in a Utopia where nobody had accidents and Insurance wasn't necessary. And, yes, I don't know if you can get a discount for proving to an Insurance company that you theoretically have enough brains to get a degree.
