Intel Core i5 655K and 875K

Summary: They're like the Core i5 650 and Core i7 870, but with unlocked multipliers, nice for overclockers and games.

Nice for overclockers, agreed. But the 875K is overkill for games. You get the same fps out of a i5 655K/750, Phenom 955/965/1055 which are all much cheaper. Quite surprising though how well a dual core with HT performs gaming wise.

Note: Benchmarks have been comipled using the intel compiler, crippling other processors.

So, whlie there is a gap, the gap isn't as big as we would like to believe.
While core 2 was awesome, i5 and i7 are not as great as they should have been. Not at their price levels.

For gaming, Phenom II wins this round.

In benchmarks yes, there is an unfair gap. However 99% of actual productivity software (3D modelling, rendering etc) will run faster on an Intel rig regardless. Gaming its 50/50. In SA the good gaming CPUs cost roughly the same so I would not say that either camp wins gaming.

sigh ... 4 yrs back i paid around R2000 for 1 of the first core 2 quads .... and its still running well all i've actually upgraded since was ram which is now on 6G and new G card
