Intel CPU coolers are RUBBISH!

That's what it's about - what you need is a sturdy plank, little bigger than a standard atx m/b - then you drill 4 holes (here you have to measure carefully) around where the cpu cooler legs will fit. so you can now place the m/b flush on the plank and insert the cpu cooler, bingo! no problems!
I do admit though it is a crap design!

Intel never meant it to be that easy... you're cheating :p
 
I think the problem is the crappy MSI board and not the stock Intel heatsink. :P

It's frigging impossible to install the cooler once the MB is in the case, you have to do it outside of the case. I hope intel change the design as it really sucks.
 
Installed hundreds of Intel LGA 775 coolers already. I shudder every time I do. Hate them !! :(

I agree, they are crap to install.

However, Intel coolers works pretty well and I've never had a single problem with one. If your box is well ventilated, there's really no need to waste a lot of money on another cooler. Rather buy a bigger hard drive for your PS3. :)
 
I can't say that I had any problems during or since installing my Intel CPU + stock cooler. Installation was a breeze, and it runs pretty cool and quiet too.

Same here, don't like how it bends the mobo but no hassles. Not seen as many broken clips as with previous sockets either. Backplates are a better design, just don't like some chassis that give no access to the back of the board, can be a schlep removing the whole motherboard.
 
depends on the board, I have seen gigabyte boards that are naturally bent or bowed at the cpu seat. Thats straight out the box, I reckon with all the head generated in that one specific area when the solders are done could make it do that. But my current board sits just fine with my CM V8 on it, and that thing is HUGE!

That is a brand new MSI board and an intel CPU cooler with dual core CPU...
Man, that thing looks like a canoe because of the way the cpu cooler is pulling the board towards it. I haven't put a system together for some time but I can see why the previous board packed up - I imagine something in that 4 layer circuitboard just broke... this is really poor. Do other coolers do that? Has anyone else noticed this before?

You are supposed to fit it after the MOBO is screwed down. :)

A bend like that should not break the board but it does look horrifying. Intel fans are not bad at all. As somebody said, aftermarket coolers can do better but still, not bad for an all in one job. :)
