does anyone happen to know if the new E7300 is going to be better/faster than the old Q6600. I think that was the original quad that came out so Im worried that its really old tech and the E7300 might actually be on par...

if thats possible at all?

basically a mate has a E7300 and has been offered a Q6600 (which he has to pay for) but Im not convinced its going to be that much quicker?

Your assumption is correct, the q6600 might be a bit more future proof depending on how many developers code with multithreading in mind.

I would go for the newer models Q9xxx --> 45 nm less --> power usage

Ha the desicion seems unanimous htc_guy , is there any doubt left in your mind ?

THe Q6600 is better although getting one of the 45nm processors would be much better. I think the Q9400 (2.66 GHz) goes for around R2500.

thanks for the posts, much appreciated. I let the dude know, coz he was gonna go for the other one I think.

I also got MY quad core last night... :D Intel Q9550, and damn this thing can overclock like a beast! Im very impressed!
