Intel kills off the desktop, PCs go with it

I also can't believe that they could possibly screen out chips for headroom. There's ALWAYS some headroom in a CPU, it just depends how many volts and how much temperature you're willing to endure to get it.

could be possible if they simply lock down the bios then there would be no headroom for anything

So what happens to game developers? Do they simply just stick with concentrating on the console platform and just dodge pc games? Surely games with high cpu utilization in the future and game-cpu optimization according to enthusiasts (sans gpu) should be a concern for developers aswell. If their customers need high performance hardware (like we do and utilize) to get the best out of the games they develop whats the point if we are limited to embedded cpus and probly pay through our asses to get an embedded high performance embedded platform. All those movies that depict the future and technology companies spoiling it for mankind are becoming true :D

Yeah but he's talking about capping out the limits of the silicon at the fabrication level.

I replied in relation to what you said about voltage and temp, the internals of a cpu can have as much headroom as it wants but whats the use if intel makes an agreement with even the third party manufacturers to lock down firmware interfaces so no tweaking is available, its the same like having a k series cpu with an h series mobo, the cpu is unlocked so theres all the headroom in the world but u cant do anything with it cos the chipset doesnt allow overclocking. So along that lines Intel can just choose a few of many different ways to screw us around.
