Intel might make a comeback with Conroe

Intel had to do something and it looks like they have. This year is going to be very interesting. Would like to see the power consumption and temps. The Conroe is a 65nm chip right?

I hope AMD won't be sleeping on the job and just let this one slip by. That would be a disaster for them. They need to compete cause I want to see prices drop even more than they have recently. :)

Man, i like this, i really like this. Just a bit worried about the Intel Supplied Demo's and stuff. I would like to have that!

amd will kick their asses

intel is a bunch of crap and always will be second best

I don't agree. For many years Intel was better than AMD however they have lagged behind for the last few years. Ultimately the competition can only be good for us:)

Yeah, Intel got caught sleeping by AMD and they took advantage of it. AMD must not to make the same mistake.

My problem is that AMD doesn't seem to have anything serious in the pipeline cept for AM2. And that hasn't made me gone "OMW!!1 WOW!1!!" yet.

AMD fanboys better get ready for some rough times ahead. :D

Anyway you look at it the Conroe is a seriously fast chip. And the one demo'd isn't even their top of the range model :D

its all marketing from intel why can they have a demo and not start producing the chip now?

its all rubbish to make them look good, we will see how good they are in 6 months

all marketing

im not a fan boy, intel just charge way to much for their cpu;s

Well it is not due for a few months and AMD is brining out Socket AM2 in June with a few new chips. IIRC I read somewhere that AM2 will launch with atleast a 5000+ X2.

Yip. Amongst others. :D

* AMD Athlon 64 4000+, 512kb cache
* AMD Athlon 64 3800+, 512kb cache
* AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 512kb cache
* AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ with 2x512kb cache (90nm, Windsor core)
* AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ with 2x512kb cache (90nm, Windsor core)
* AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ with 2x512kb cache (90nm, Windsor core)
* AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ with 2x1MB cache, running at 2x 2.6GHz
* AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 with 1MB cache, running at 2.8GHz
* AMD Sempron 3000+ (1,6 GHz), 256kb cache, (90nm Manila core)
* AMD Sempron 3200+ (1,8 GHz), 256kb cache, (90nm Manila core)
* AMD Sempron 3400+ (2,0 GHz), 256kb cache, (90nm Manila core)

I cant wait to see these chips in the real world, lets just hope Intel isnt going to charge the earth for these chips. Competitive pricing with AMD should win over a few fanboys im sure

I always thought AMD superiority will be short lived. Now if this is only the start of the competition then AMD will realy have to pull up socks.

Any way once bitten twice shy. AMD bit me years ago and I never returned. Thus remained at Intel ever since.

Intel and Asus is KING!

I was considering moving to AMD on the next due upgrades due to their good offerings, price and as Intel lagged so long, but now I will just remain patient.

Good things is coming sooner than too later.

Maybe you are confused? I say stuff AMD I will now rather wait for Intel next generation chips and motherboards before upgrading my systems. Thats clear! I did have a maybe AMD in my mind a few weeks ago but not anymore
Ditto.

Het jy die beklemtoonde gedeeltes gelees?

Eers sê jy AMD se dominansie was kortgeleefd, en dan sê jy Intel het so lank agteros gespeel jy het ampet AMD toe gegaan. Maak my net deurmekaar.

I predicted in August last year that Intel would turn the heat up with their new architecture:

http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=25720

Intel surprised everyone (probably even AMD) with the performance of Conroe. AMD may have something in the pipeline but then why didn't they release details of it during IDF to steal Intel's thunder like they did with Turion? Intel have shown their hand and can't significantly change it within the next 6 months so it only hurts AMD to hold back if they do have something.

I think AMD are going to have to concede this round to Intel. Not even the shift to DDR2 (AM2), a speed bump and a process shrink to 65nm will allow K8 to match Conroe, they're going to need a new architecture. Also by the time AMD are starting to ship 65nm parts in 2007 Intel will already be tooling their fabs for 45nm.

The 800lb gorilla is awake again and it's Kong time ;) Whether you're a fanboy of Intel or AMD this is a good thing as competition will drive prices down on both sides.

Intel already broke 5ghz with a standard EE cpu featuring a simple intel water cooling that costs less than 50$. Just imagine what you could do with that cooler on a conroe cpu. AMD is gonna be caught with their pants down and be screwed harder than telkom screws us. :D

Mmmm...Good to see I do not stand alone here.

I do not care for the slight speed and gaming performance increase and cost of AMD in the recent years.

Intel and Asus is still tops IMHO. Conroe and whats to follow will proof that
