Since there isn't an official Intel vs AMD thread, I thought I'd create one.

Which one do you prefer and why?

Intel, more widely supported. Help is easily available, so are replacements.

Indifferent - Intel is the brand that Apple uses for their computers but apart from that I don't have a preference.

Mod_note - poll added - if you have other options in mind put them in a post and I'll add as necessary.

I voted AMD since I have used their CPU's since the AthlonXP, always been very happy with performance, & my current X2 is plenty fast for what I need. I will probably upgrade to Barcelona when they are released unless they are worse than the C2D which is unlikely.

Depends who is on top when i need to upgrade. For my first 3 pcs I bought it was AMD but with my last one it was Intel.

And you also get nvidia chipset mobo's for intel.

Support on a processor? Phone the helpdesk type support?
No, 3rd party support. Most software is designed on Intel-based systems, and as such the specs quoted are usually for Intel-based systems. You might see x.xGhz or similar - the "or similar" part referring to AMD and other chipsets.

As if it is any different with AMD?
How many motherboards are there available for Intel compared to AMD?

4 pricelists (leaving out duplication):

Intel 66 motherboards

AMD 32 motherboards

I wonder by how much Intel will cut thier prices? Cheap performance and overall system value for money is what drives me to AMD...

I have always leaned towards Intel, for no particular reason mind you, although I have seen some "inferior" (for lack of a better word) AMD machines that performed exceptionally well. Is there anywhere one can look at comparison charts or something like that?

I like Toms Hardware's CPU charts, you can compare two processors against each other easily by making them red...

So, Intel fans, how great (maybe I should say HOT) are those Pentium 4's huh huh? :p

(They probably gonna bring out some K6-2 flaw out now )

Oh, Ill mention C2D for ya! EXPENSIVE!!! :p

So no go except if you have nice spare money and/or demand the BEST in performance (meaning you have a 8800GTX and DDR2 1066) too.
