I like Toms Hardware's CPU charts, you can compare two processors against each other easily by making them red...

Thanks for that. Some interesting food for thought. Ill weigh my options a lot more when I build my next beast in the next month or so. Whats this I hear about the temperature of the respective chips? My Intel machines, apart from a lot of fan noise, warm the room up quite nicely.

I have always leaned towards Intel, for no particular reason mind you, although I have seen some "inferior" (for lack of a better word) AMD machines that performed exceptionally well. Is there anywhere one can look at comparison charts or something like that?
There was a time back, K5 I think, where AMD had lots of problems. Athlon X2 are a different story though. "Dream machines" I tell you.

Ya, it was the K5. My mate had two of them. I don't think either of them every really worked properly. :p

I currently have two computers, one with AMD and one with Intel. As I expected, the 3800+ outperforms a 2.8Ghz Pentium4 by some margin. Maybe time to upgrade that Intel machine? :P

super show me where the 6000+ plus can stay with the e6600 plz

where are these benchies :)

amd is behind core 2 its not even funny

Based on the becnhmarks on Tomshardware it reveals:

AMD wins in 13 of the benchmarks, 7 benchmark results are equal and 17 times Intel triumphs.

The 6000+ costs about R2200 with VAT and profit, the E6600 is about R3000 with VAT and same amount of profits. Thats R800 difference, enough to by a 1GB DDR2 667MHz RAM module or a Biostar nForce 570 Ultra motherboard...

AMD on principle, and their XP up to X2 CPUs were great. Intel has one good chip and everyone loves them :p

Interesting to see what happens next with the new AMDs and Intels.

AMD rests its case.

I've always bought AMD but since switching to Mac I have to use Intel.

However, if I ever but a PC again it will have a AMD in it.

But I dont think i'll buy a PC again, so Xbox360 or Wii it is.

Please don't use Tom's charts for anything, I cannot state enough times how wrong they are. They are not slightly wrong, but way off the mark, by a long shot.
Out of 20 benchmarks Intel Core2 would win about 18 if not 19 by a margin too... Go to proper sites please, like Hexus, AnandTech*, Guru3D, VR-Zone, nvnews, bjorn3d, digitech, [h]ardocp (hate their graphs but anyway) etc...
For get about tom and his lists they are wrong. Bang for buck right now AMD is tops, but performance Intel is King (right now) X2 6000+ is a little faster then E6400 but slower than E6600. Maybe the speed of E6450.

Having said that I have always preferred AMD besides that they had a superior CPU for a long time, when the A64 came I no longer had to deal with FSB and its implications on performance as there were non. Made life easier and in general resulted in much superior boards than we have today for the Core2 platform.

Ok ShockG, I'd gladly use another website that has ALL the CPUs with a variety of benchmarks...

I've been a AnandTech forums member since 2000 (our off topic is better, more fun) and I havent seen such a chart on there, and I hardly see benchmarks around that compare 6600s and 6000. So I will continue to use Toms Hardware as my resource till someone else puts the effort in, I'd put the effort in if I had the monetary resources...

that may be true but they are also in the wrong. Just because many believe something to be true it does not mean it is... :/
Ask on any forum anywhere, from Rage3D to XS and see what they tell you about THG's charts...

I don't get how they can be so wrong. They use widely accepted benchmarking techniques and programs...

Could you perhaps post a corrected chart, ShockG?
