Hello all,

Weird question.... If building a gaming rig.... Any reason why you can't use a Xeon CPU instead of those expensive i7's? I mean, isn't a Xeon CPU made to handle heavy workloads?

Or are they useless for gaming? I was just wondering due to their high clock speeds.

You can use a Xeon for gaming, but not sure why you think it's cheaper?
Xeons are usually more expensive than an i7, can have custom sockets, etc.
You will need to be more specific what Xeon and what i7.

You could but it's not as simple as being made to handle heavy workloads. Xeons handle different workloads and would perform differently than an i7 in the same task. Then there's also socket compatibility and not all graphics cards may work correctly in Xeon motherboards. Don't know why you'd go through the hassle for something that isn't really cheaper. Rather disable some cores and overclock your i7 but then again single threaded performance is starting to matter less and less for gaming.
