Hi all,

let me start off by saying I dont agree at all with intentionally damaging equipment in order to claim from insurance/IT

I also dont agree with people that damage anything in order to claim a better product/service/good by doing this,

I feel there are always better options available, instead of damaging/Destroying equipment, IE keeping for spares/donate/sell
but, what would you do if you are placed in such a situation?

IE we want to damage our PC's/Mac's in such a way that we can easily claim from insurance/IT/Rental company

would you do it? if so how?
if not, what would you do to avoid doing it?

is there an easy way out of doing such a thing?

You realize you're talking about insurance fraud, right?

Your post makes no sense.

You say you don't agree with it then ask how?

The real question begins long before that with the WHY would you want to do this?

yip, perfectly aware of that,

difficult situation I face, not sure what is the right way forward here. honestly dont want to do anything.

I sure im not the only one that been placed in such a position before, how did they handle it?

Yes I dont agree at all with it, and its more hypothetical, can it be done?
also I wanted to know if anybody here had to do something like this before?

Why on earth would you even risk it?

They can tell if something has been tampered with, your insurance will request that you get a repair quote from a reputable agency and generally they will detect the fault, and you will get sued, or if its the "IT" you will be liable for damages and possibly fired.

No one is placing you under any sort of circumstance but yourself.

The right way forward is to refuse to break the law. What's not clear here?

It's not worth it dude, replace it if you have to but don't commit insurance fraud. If you get time go read the ombudsman for short term insurance's cases on the net, people do get caught out and if you do get caught you will never get insurance again. It really is not worth it.

yip, agree here, never a good idea, rather wait for equipment to break on its own before replacing it,
or claiming from insurance, as I sure they do test equipment before paying things out.

but my question still remains? has anybody been placed in such a position before?
or is it just something that happens to me specifically?

You don't HAVE to do anything.

Just walk away.

Do you think whoever is expecting you to do this is going to take responsibility when the **** hits the fan? Nope you are going to be the fall guy they point their fingers at as if completely unaware.

It's very clear that you work for some highly questionable individuals...

Why is this an issue in your world?

Whoever is asking you to do this can do it themselves... do not give in to an unlawful order that will open you up to insurance fraud charges.

I had a friend in school (really was a friend, back in 1998 or so) who committed insurance fraud for a new PC by claiming a lightning strike....

Just don't do it. I'm sure with a little bit of investigation the assessors would have figured out it was fraud.

apparently our insurance will pay out water damage, so they want the equipment to damage itself,
I just not sure I want to be a part of this, I dont at all want to break any equipment, and dont feel good about even knowing about this,

Take the day off of work. Dont get involved.

Don't even think of anything... but be aware that your insurance company will possibly ask questions, and since you KNOW they did it you could be in for a world of hurt if you don't report the actions as fraudulent as well.

Basic thing at the end of the day, find a new job with a company that doesn't want to commit insurance fraud.
